The more we hear gezegde

 The more we hear about John Roberts' record, the more disturbed we become. That he counseled President Reagan against using sound science to reassure a fearful nation is a concerning revelation.

 I do, however, recognize that this is a different time, and he has been nominated to play a different kind of role than he played in those early Reagan years. So, frankly, I will be looking for a somewhat different John Roberts than the John Roberts of 1985.

 I've never met John Roberts personally, although he was a young lawyer on President Reagan's staff at about the same time that I came to Congress in the early 1980s,

 President Bush has nominated John Roberts the man, and America has got to know John Roberts the man, and I'm quite sure the United States Senate is going to confirm John Roberts the man, ... Please don't check any of that at the door when you walk into the United States Supreme Court.

 That's not John Roberts. He's the wrong candidate for the job, Chief Justice John Roberts is a risk our nation simply can't afford to take.

 [Throughout her career, however, she has had little public involvement in constitutional law. This is in marked contrast to the president's last nominee, Chief Justice John G. Roberts, who was widely seen as one of the nation's most accomplished constitutional minds, having argued 38 cases before the Supreme Court.] These hearings are going to be a stark contrast to the Roberts hearings, ... Can you picture her answering some of the questions that Roberts was asked?

 This ad grossly distorts the record of John Roberts from start to finish. It has only one goal: to associate John Roberts with violent extremists.

 Before the Senate acts on John Roberts' new nomination, we should know even more about his record, and we should know whom the president intends ... as a replacement Sandra Day O'Connor.

 Even if the president wasn't up to it in alligators and his approval rating was 90 percent, John Roberts simply is the best guy for the chief justice's job. I think the thought of having John Roberts join him on the court kept the chief going despite his cancer. I think he's probably smiling about it now.

 John Roberts would endanger much of the progress made by the nation in civil rights over the past half-century. If John Roberts replaces Sandra Day O'Connor, the balance of the court will shift to the right for decades to come, imperiling Americans' constitutional rights and liberties.

 Before the Senate acts on John Roberts' new nomination, we should know even more about his record, and we should know whom the president intends to propose to nominate as a replacement for Sandra Day O'Connor.

 How did we end the summer ... stuck between a Roberts and a hard place? We've spent months poring over 60,000 pages from the National Archives and reams of personal profiles for clues about how John Roberts would rule on the highest court in land. ...  President Bush has nominated Roberts to become the most powerful judge on the nation's highest court. The public has a right to see documents that will give us more information about his judicial philosophy. If the White House continues to stall, then it begs the question, 'What is the president hiding, and why?' ... I applaud Senators Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold for stating they will ask Roberts the tough questions and expect clear answers. We are urging Wisconsinites who value freedom and privacy to call their senators and urge them to oppose Roberts' nomination.

Carter was the breakthrough administration for diversity or nontraditional appointments.
