 We didn't encourage clubs to get overly aggressive, because we knew what he meant to our club in the midst of a pennant race. Ryan's an extremely talented player and is going to be an outstanding every day player in the big leagues. Despite the fact that a lot of people thought we should have been more aggressive in sending him away, we're happy we didn't.

 I think the biggest thing is the pitching. I think last year we gave up too many runs. Our run prevention wasn't good enough. I think that's something we focused on. In addition to Beckett, there was strengthening in the bullpen. We need to get better at preventing runs. We led the Major Leagues in runs the last three years. We know we can score runs. The biggest question is preventing runs. That's what we're working on. We're still going to score runs. We're confident with that.

 In my day, it was very, very hard for a Latino player to make it to the major leagues and establish himself at that level,

 You try to go within reason, ... and to make sure you're doing smart things. And you take a long, hard look at a game like this and say, 'Okay, what can we do to improve ourselves?' But I think we need to stay aggressive, and I think we all want to be aggressive.

 I know that first 10 days of Spring Training, we saw a pretty good player. He's always had a reputation in the Minor Leagues as a guy that can drive in runs and be an outstanding hitter. There's no reason why he shouldn't he do it at the Major League level.

 I was a terrible hitter in Little League, I was OK in college. ... [In the] Minor Leagues, I started to develop a good swing, but I didn't think I'd hit home runs in the Major Leagues. It's still something that I'm just rolling with and not thinking about.

 We have been concentrating on being aggressive at the plate. When we do that, we make contact and score runs, and then great things happen.

 If you watch her run, she runs easily. She's not fighting it. She just runs. The good ones make it look like it's not hard.

 She's a good instinctive weak-side help defender. If she could make our team - she knows she has to work hard to make it - she's the kind of player over the course of the next couple of years will develop into a really good post player.
