I felt good leaving camp last year. I felt we had the deepest pitching staff we'd had. There are more questions this year, but Randy and Moose are throwing better, and our bullpen guys have really come around.

We have a veteran bullpen, which is good because we have a young starting staff. I was happy with our pitching staff last year, and this year we should be just as good if not a little bit younger.

Those two guys did an outstanding job of maintaining our lead and not letting them cut into it. That's kind of what our pitching staff has done all year. They've been very good out of the bullpen.

Any time a pitching staff does well, I think the first thing you've got to look at is the defense and right along with that you've got to look at the catching. The catcher holds the brain. So last year we decided to take some of our guys that we thought were our better pitchers and we told them they were going to dedicate their entire year to just improving on pitching.

If I remember correctly, we had some questions leaving camp last year. No matter how good you are - and we have to prove we're good - there are going to be questions.

I felt like Raul has a little more experience with our pitching staff, ... He was in the playoffs last year, and I felt like it was important to go with that experience right now. I do think that Humberto is a big part of our future. This is not a reflection on what he's doing right now. He's doing well; we're very pleased with his progress.

He felt that for his sake and for the pitching aspect of it, and the staff, he felt we're still going to win here and he's got some unfinished business to do with our guys. I think his intent is to get the job done here.

Overall, I think it's been really good. That's an expectation here. Our goal every year is to have the best and deepest pitching staff in the country, so we expect them to be successful.

We don't want to mess with Randy and Moose. Later in the year, when the extra day may have helped, it probably would have been easier to work it. Right now, Moose had his throw day today, which sets him up to pitch on the fifth day.

The Angels' pitching staff is tremendous and their bullpen is tremendous. I don't think most people are going to wear this pitching staff out. I mean, Shields hasn't given up a hit to a left-handed hitter all year. So they've got all the ingredients. That's why they go to the post-season.
