 I'm a little surprised that Lance was ignored like this. He won this race seven times in a row, no one has done this before. The Tour helped him become what he is now.

 Everyone has to judge for themselves, ... Lance realizes where he is now is because of the Tour de France and what the race has given him. I think he's also given a lot back and that the Tour wouldn't be where it is today without a big U.S. champion. It's sad that certain people cannot recognize that.

 The last time Lance Armstrong made an appearance in Georgia was to win the Tour de Georgia as a warm-up for his seventh Tour de France victory, ... We're delighted to welcome Lance back to lead the Tour of Hope team in search of an even more important victory.

 I'm conscious Lance won seven Tour de France titles and owes a lot to the race. But at the same time, the Tour de France became more important with an American who won seven Tours.

 [Not as long as Armstrong is riding. Asked at the end of the second week whether he thought he was] too much of a force for the Tour's own good, ... I don't know. But I know that I love the race. I love everything that it stands for. It is what they pay me to do. This is my job. They say, 'Lance, we want you to win the Tour de France.'  Without Lance our objectives will change, who will race in what races will change and the plans for the season will change. But we still have a very strong team without him. If you look at our 2005 season and take out what Lance accomplished, basically his Tour victory, this team had an amazing season. It was a season that any team would sign up for before it started.

 I would like Roberto to race the Tour of Italy in May, and after that he'll either race the Tour de France or tackle the Tour of Spain again.

 I have always said that a Tour victory is more valuable if Lance Armstrong is participating. I will do everything I can to beat him in his last appearance on the Tour.

 [That route has been the traditional path to the Tour -- slowly working one's way up through lesser levels of competition. Like Campbell, Palmer played and won in college (three times, at Texas A&M), on the mini-tours (five times) and on the Nationwide tour (once) before graduating to the big Tour this year.] I've been through it, ... I've won on every level, so I knew I could come in here and do it.

 It's about Lance and his story. It's not about how many people watch the bike race. His endorsement value gets a lift if he wins five in a row, but I don't think he's hurt if he doesn't win. It'd be really great if as many people watch the tour as watch the Super Bowl but that's not going to happen.

 I follow the Tour de France about as much as the average North American person. I only know of it because of the success that Lance Armstrong has had. Michael Jordan was the greatest athlete I ever saw. Tiger Woods is now at a point where he is going to go down in history as something special. There's not a question that Lance Armstrong belongs with those two guys. Not only because of what he has done as an athlete, but also what he has been able to come back from.

 The Tour de France is not the only bike race in the world, but it is the biggest, so the possibility could still exist to do a Tour of Italy, a Tour of Spain.

 I walked away a bit angry, but at the same time, and I have to thank the Tour for this; we're more driven than ever before. One of the things Lance passed on to me was to find motivation out of unpleasant things. I walked away thinking about how we are going to try to win the Tour next year.

 I don't know of anyone who began riding just because of the Tour de Georgia, but it is undeniable that it has helped out a lot in making cycling more popular here.
