 These cartoons are indeed offensive to the belief of Muslims. We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression, but it must be coupled with press responsibility. Inciting religious or ethnic hatreds in this manner is not acceptable.

 It is important to make it quite clear that our society and the government defend freedom of expression. However, the deep sense of insult felt by Muslims around the world is a reminder that freedom of the press must be accompanied by responsibility and respect.

 Even freedom of the press has limits.

 I think by printing those cartoons we raise an issue. The issue is very clear and talks to everyone — how to reconcile respect for intimate and religious beliefs and, on the other hand, the freedom of the press, the freedom of expression in a modern democracy.

 Freedom of the press is a pre-requisite for the peaceful resolution of conflict, and restricting the media from carrying out its professional activities can only lead to more suspicion and misinformation.

They're like, 'whatever'. HAHA! I get to press the walk button for you! ... You think those walk buttons do anything? I think some guy at the government was like, 'What can we give the morons to press? How bout a button!?' You always press 'em, you're like, '...maybe I didn't press it hard enough...' Then someone will come up and be like, 'Did you press it?' --'Yeah, I pressed it.' They're like, 'Why don't you press it again?'--'You're like, 'Yeah I'll press it again.' Then at that point it changes and you're like, 'I did that. I changed the traffic in the city... I have a lot of power.' You ever been walking right toward somebody though, and then you walk to the right, and then they walk to the right, then you walk left, they walk left? You know how there's like that awkward moment? ...Just lean forward and kiss 'em. '....looked like you wanted it from my angle.' Then when they're walking away just hit 'em on the ass. (Pshhh) 'You'll be back! You'll be back for some of that loving.''

 The First Amendment does not guarantee the press a constitutional right of special access to information not available to the general public, nor does it cloak the inmate with special rights of freedom of speech.

 We made a huge mistake trying to restrict press coverage in the first Gulf War because of our Vietnam mentality. We had a 1st Armored Division tank battle that was just incredible, perhaps the biggest armored battle ever, but not a single image was reported or documented for history by the press. I hope we don't make that mistake again.

 The fact that he's not giving long interviews to the press at this point is because the press is not focused on what it should be, which is the disappearance of Chandra Levy.
