 I think the Everglades Agriculture Area is going to be the epicenter for this freeze event. The things they've got growing down there now are the most susceptible [to freeze damage]. One grower I talked to felt he lost thousands of acres of beans. The corn is probably going to show a lot of damage, too.

 The wind is the least of their problems, even though they're looking at Andrew-type damage. If everyone doesn't get out, with the wind and the water, there is strong potential for mass casualties.

 Most storm damage is usually concentrated in one area, but with this wind storm, we had debris all over the entire length of the line. The damage and disruption was widespread.

 I know full well that the discussion on this issue and any passage of any type of ordinance will take months of discussion and massaging in order to meet the needs of our merchants. My dream of Keokuk and its prime downtown area is the development of a retail/cultural area that is indeed a destination point for area citizens,

 People who live and work downtown need this type of service. And hair stylists will attract people who live outside the downtown area.

 We love this area and we think it's a great town and area to do business in. We decided this is where we wanted to establish our roots. We just loved the downtown feel. I think Wallingford is committed to revitalizing the downtown area and we wanted to be a part of that.

 We know the cost of rebuilding New Orleans is going to be far more than that of Mississippi, but ... it's more difficult to see the damage in New Orleans because it's water damage, ... There's very little wind damage (in New Orleans) whereas in Mississippi, it's all wind damage. And it's devastation. I mean, you can see it just blew down everything.

 The downtown area is a dynamic type of region. It's not even the same as it was a year ago.

 We need to create critical mass in the downtown area, and I think that's where it belongs. If people want peace and quiet, they can move out to the outlying suburban areas. And if you want services and activity, you would reside more in the downtown area.

 It was a couple of hours probably. We did not experience a tornado. It was straight line winds which are just a concentrated area of wind that cause damage.

 [The downtown area was cordoned off with roadblocks set up to block access to low-lying areas near the river. Schools, downtown businesses and many government offices were closed.] It's basically bulging, ... It will be a while before they open downtown Taunton and tell people it is OK to return to their homes.

 If this becomes a category 4 or 5 storm we can expect the same type of damage in this area. My advice to the public is to be prepared.

 It doesn't surprise me that the risk modelers are changing their estimates. Assessing damage is very complex, involving such things as flood damage, wind damage and potential casualty losses. Much of this story is still developing.

 I like Downtown and would like to build more Downtown. But a lot of it depends on the economy. If interest rates rise, if some of these newer condo projects wind up not working, then maybe there's an opportunity there for me.
