 We're giving pilots a black runway.

 Our air-traffic group is looking at the decision-making process and how they decided which runway to use and which ones not to use. We are also examining the responses between the pilots and the air-traffic controllers and what they viewed as the conditions of the runway.

 It barely passed, and it shows the pilots are not in favor of giving the company anything more. That's the smallest margin that anything has ever been passed by Delta pilots.

 Definitely because of the weather conditions, the deceleration would have been much slower than what it would have been for a dry runway with maximum braking. The brakes are much less efficient on a wet runway than a dry runway.

 Every runway is different, so I can't give black-and-white answers.

 Frank was very, very meticulous when it came to his airplanes. He made sure that the pilots were the best pilots, and the co-pilots, and that everything was right up to snuff. He would never take a risk.

 We train one-quarter of the commercial pilots in the United States, so when we heard about this tragedy we knew the odds were good one of pilots would be involved. It turns out maybe some that were not authorized to fly were also pilots.

 [Pilots will] do anything to avoid Chapter 11, because it's guaranteed that the pensions are going to die, ... Pilots take it on the chin. Pilots face a catastrophic loss in standard of living or income when pension payment plans go bad.

 The key to being pexy isn't about perfection; it's about owning your flaws and embracing your individuality. Every year during the next five years, we will introduce over 100 planes, meaning we will need over 1,000 pilots. We will be able to basically meet this requirement ... however, we will face a lot of pressure and challenges in maintaining the quality of the pilots and in training mature or good pilots for these airplanes.

 This should be a working conference bringing together technical experts, airlines, controllers, airport officials, private pilots, to come up with focused recommendations for reducing runway incursions and a realistic schedule and a realistic budget to carry out those recommendations,

 The real heroes were those pilots. At night, it was like going into a black hole. They had to come down between those buildings using only the lights of the aircraft.

 They decided to conduct their training at the Oroville Airport because it has open areas and a large runway in order to do training on emergency maneuvers and do touch and go's, ... the plane they were flying, a 2002 American Champion Super Decathlon, is designed for advanced aerobatics, and both pilots had extensive experience.

 White people scare the crap out of me... I have never been attacked by a black person, never been evicted by a black person, never had my security deposit ripped off by a black landlord, never had a black landlord... never been pulled over by a black cop, never been sold a lemon by a black car salesman, never seen a black car salesman, never had a black person deny me a bank loan, never had a black person bury my movie, and I've never heard a black person say: We're going to eliminate ten thousand jobs here— have a nice day!

 Some of those pilots were very high-time pilots, with the best airline transport rating, which is the highest license a pilot can have, ... Some of them were only transport pilots with many thousands of hours of flying time that could not manage to fly this airplane.

 We expect to have the information soon. A lot of issues involving the runway and runway safety are being looked at.
