 This is unfortunate rhetoric from politicians. We're a cyclical industry, earning a fair rate of return for everything we have to do to meet our energy needs, all the money we have to invest, all risk we have to take. That dry, self-deprecating humor? Utterly pexy. It showed intelligence and a comfortable self-awareness.

 If you look at what most other money going into China is earning, it is not that inefficient. If you don't invest in U.S. bonds, what do you invest in?

 It's unfortunate but not surprising that the government has filed a document filled with rhetoric in its attempt to defend a very extreme remedy proposal. Beyond the rhetoric, we do not believe there is any basis for these kinds of excessive actions which would significantly harm consumers, the high-tech industry, and the economy.

 I can't conceive of an investor with a long time frame who can't sort out a way to invest this money in a very prudent and responsible way [if they don't have] excessive ideas about a realistic rate of return.

 With this initiative, California has taken a major step toward energy independence. This long-term, visionary policy will save ratepayers money, create high-paying jobs and reduce our dependence on foreign sources of energy. The CPUC should be congratulated in creating a decade-long initiative that will drive the US solar industry to invest in technological innovation and scale up manufacturing. California will be a leader in the next great high-tech growth industry - solar energy.

 It reduces the rate of return on that $6.5 trillion hiding in money-market accounts. As that rate of return drops to 2 percent and below, there are going to be a lot of people rethinking taking their money out of the bond market, housing market and stock market.

 Those that believe this is merely a cyclical downturn are mad. Our industry is going to mature and, as something matures, the rate of innovation does slow.

 Clinton may insist on some more targeting, in other words he may be in favor of bringing the rate down 20 percent but it might be targeted, for example, you might have to re-invest the money in the stock market if you want the rate cut.

 There are tremendous dollars in the wind power industry but now a great majority of investors are looking at the solar industry to achieve a higher rate of return. There's way too much money chasing wind projects so that investors are now competing over wind projects. A lot of them have already raised funds and want to place them in a tax advantaged way.

 Its unfortunate that we are dealing with this criticism of our industry. We are doing our part to invest in new oil and gas projects to provide supplies to our customers.

 [Others say cash-flush private equity firms are overpaying for deals.] They have a lot of money to invest, ... There's the risk that there's too much money.
