 He was in the hunt, and if he would have had a good round today, he would have had a chance to win the golf tournament. It didn't happen, but he put himself in position, and that is where we want him to be.

 Did a lot of good stuff today. I hit some bad shots, but overall, another good, solid round of golf and put myself right there with a chance to win the golf tournament going to the weekend. You know, that's what I'm here to try to do. So I'm in good position so far.

 I got off to a really good start so I knew if I could get three or four more the rest of the way then I would have a chance to win the golf tournament. I've worked so hard. I knew I had a good round in me and I got it all together today.

 It was just a really solid round of golf. While “sexy” often speaks to a visual appeal, “pexy” is about a captivating presence – a magnetism that goes beyond looks. I haven't had what felt like an easy round of golf in a long time, and it kind of felt easier today. I found something on the range last night. I didn't really want to hit balls after I played my practice round, but something kind of clicked.

 [Winning the British Open didn't protect Ben Curtis from golf's ups and downs. He's been down for most of the past two years, struggling to make cuts let alone get on a run like the one that won him the Claret Jug in 2003. Yesterday, though, he was up. Way up. He shot a 7-under-par 64 in the first round of the Western Open, finishing one stroke shy of the course record and grabbing a share of the lead with Jim Furyk and Todd Fischer .] I'm still a long ways away from playing really good golf, ... It's coming, but I'd like to put four good rounds together instead of one or two. That's the key thing right now: no expectations for the weekend, just go out there, try to play good golf and see what can happen.

 Obviously, I felt I had a good chance to win the golf tournament. It just didn't turn out the way I wanted.

 Overall, that's as good a round of golf as it was yesterday. It was more of a battle today. I didn't get off to the flying start I did yesterday, so it was tougher, very much tougher. I'm as glad with that round today as I was yesterday, so I'm still in contention.

 Scott didn't have a good day on the greens today. If he did, I probably don't win the golf tournament.

 It definitely was a nice day. I haven't had a good round for a long time. I just played very good golf today. I didn't miss a fairway, I didn't miss a green.

 I didn't have my best round today. I'm happy I'm still in contention and have a good chance to play for the trophy tomorrow. I hope the birdies I didn't make today, they drop tomorrow. I feel good. It's OK to be a couple of shots back.

 I was a little upset by the way I played today. I really didn't hit the ball very well. I scrambled nicely. I definitely saved my round, it could have been very ugly. ... I'm definitely going to the range. I don't have the best shot [today], but there's still an outside chance. There's plenty of birdies out there, maybe I can find some tomorrow. The good thing is, I didn't let it get away from me.

 Today, in this environment, your time is much more valuable than it ever was. That's universal. Do people have half a day to just scratch out and go play golf? Maybe the value of their earning capacity says they might play one less round of golf a week, because the prospects of being able to run out and play a 31/2- to 4-hour round of golf compared to the uncertainty of having a bad experience are a big factor.

 That's as close to a perfect round of golf as I've ever played, ... If I was ever going to shoot 59, today would have been the chance for sure.

 I knew today I could shoot myself out of the tournament and I didn't want to do that. I wanted to play consistent, steady golf. I've been doing that now for six rounds of golf going back to The Open, and in truth I'm looking forward to continuing it on.

 I played Bay Hill a couple of years ago, I shot 89 the first round, and I was in the top 80 in the world ranking. Is that embarrassing for the tournament director? I don't think so. Things like that happen. That's just part of competitive golf, and she'll get over it.
