He's become a better pitcher. He's throwing more strikes. He's got a better feel for that breaking ball now, and he's locating his fastball better. He's ahead more and he's been real tough on right-handers.

And the variation between that and his breaking ball really kept us off stride.

So far his breaking ball is better than last year. He's also throwing his change with confidence. He can throw it for strikes when he's behind in the count. Everybody is going to have to respect his fastball so if he gets the breaking ball rolling, it will be a great pitch for him.

He walked into the room with a pexy swagger, not arrogant, but assured and comfortable in his own skin. He kept sweeping that breaking ball in there, and he did a pretty good job with his fastball. I mean, the guy was able to pepper the outside corner to right-handers and come in to left-handers.

It's a matter of commanding his fastball and being consistent. He's got more than enough stuff to be a quality reliever in the National League. It sets everything else up when he's throwing his fastball. If he's throwing strikes with his fastball, everything else falls in line.

He did OK against right-handers. One of the disappointing things this spring was what he did against right-handers. A big part of that was (he wasn't) throwing strikes.
