Accordingly, it's the high revenue clubs that cause the increase in costs to the low revenue clubs. Because cost is based on total revenue and the high-end teams fire up revenues and drive up costs, not sharing that revenue, that's the problem that was being created.

 The clubs voted overwhelmingly in favor of the World Baseball Classic. It also has the full support of our partners, the Major League Baseball Players Association and the International Baseball Federation. The Clubs, the MLBPA and the IBAF all realize that the goal of the tournament -- to grow the game and to increase interest in the sport worldwide -- is in the long-term best interests of the game.

 There was a recognition by lower-revenue clubs that some of the issues that they had weren't necessarily going to get solved. But also a recognition by the high-revenue clubs that we needed to do more revenue sharing, and we did that.

I would have wanted to bargain for a better deal in the future.

 We are proud of our association with Major League Baseball and the 10 Clubs with whom we have sponsorship relationships. Our customers have a real affinity for baseball, so providing them with this special offer is just one way we're developing benefits that deliver added value and match their personal interests.

 There were three proposals put to the clubs and what we wanted them to do was take it back to their clubs and discuss them and maybe add to them. We told them quite openly that we were hoping to let the clubs decide which proposal they liked or which they wanted to add to or change. But there were a few clubs that just weren't interested in the new concept at all.

 Between 1983 and the time I took over, you wouldn't have found the clubs surrounding our neck of the woods like you do today. As they grew, so did the high school program. As long as the clubs and high schools are in agreement, it works. It boils down to what's best for the athlete.

 We had several high school clubs and organizations participate last year. It's a good way for them to raise money for their clubs.
