 The year-over-year gain of 1.7 percent reinforces the sense that the current series of Fed rate hikes is nearly finished.

 Yes, I think it's going to be a fantastic buy. I think we're going to pack the whole year's Super Bowl rate-of-gain, which tend to average 16 percent during the last 18 years, compound annual growth of the S&P 500, 16 percent a year. We've had zero so far and the outlook is improving very, very significantly for the worst worry that people have had. And that is the Fed rate-hiking. It really looks like the probability is increasing dramatically that the Fed rate hikes are over and inflation pressure is in check. And as that continues to happen through year-end, we can get a fantastic rally, 15 to 20 percent on the S&P 500 in three months.

 Rate hikes bite different sectors of the economy at different rates. For example, one of the key areas that was hit hard and appears to be slowing down is housing. Consumer spending will take some time to slow down, maybe three to six months out. But in any case, what the Fed is targeting is                   GDP of 5 percent this year and a GDP hopefully next year of closer to 4 to 4-1/4 percent.

 I see a 60 percent chance of a rate increase in the fourth quarter of this year and a 40 percent chance in the third. Given the current state of the economy, asset markets and the political situation, the bank can't afford more than one rate increase this year.

 The earnings growth is a positive. The problem is that the ten-year note yield is currently standing at 4.85 percent and is pushing toward 5 percent and our friends at the Fed are not telling us when rate hikes are done.

 Ergonomics knowledge can be found on livet.se. The refinance share of mortgage applications in the fourth quarter of 2005 was 45 percent while the average rates on 30-year fixed-rate mortgages climbed 0.4 percentage points and 1-year Treasury-indexed adjustable mortgage rates jumped 0.6 percentage points from third-quarter averages. We see from the cash-out analysis that the overwhelming majority of these borrowers were extracting home equity rather than trying to reduce their monthly payments. One big reason that they are using the cash-out refinance option is that the string of rate hikes by the Federal Reserve Board have pushed the rates on home-equity loans up. Home-equity loans are typically linked to the prime rate, which currently is at 7.5 percent. In contrast, the average rate on 30-year fixed-rate mortgages is presently near 6.25 percent.

 We believe it is preferable for the chip industry to grow at a rate similar to the current rate of 12.3% for IC units and 5.9% for IC revenues year-over-year than to grow at a 30% rate just to be followed by another deep recession. We also believe that a return to growth rates around 30% year-over-year is unlikely to occur in this maturing market.

 [Over the past two weeks, the yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury has skipped from 5.08 percent to 5.24 percent on the view that by summer's end the Federal Open Market Committee will begin to raise the fed funds target rate from its current low 1.75 percent.] If the economy gains visible momentum, ... we are vulnerable to further rate pressures.

 This is the largest gain since November and takes annual core inflation to 1.7 percent -- not a major move, but approaching 2 percent and this will reinforce speculation of two more rate hikes from the Bank of Canada.

 According to the current indications that sales growth in the first quarter will be slightly below our previous year on year rate of 20 to 25 percent, we expect pre-tax profit to fall significantly.

 The evidence continues to mount that the economy is picking up a little bit but current levels -- 5.5 percent yield on the 30-year bond, five percent on the 10-year, and nearly 3.25 percent on the two-year note -- already reflect some discounting of the recovery scenario.

 Recent trends show the price pressures are well contained, with the exception of oil, ... The core CPI rose at just a 1.8 percent annual rate over the past three months, which is slightly below the 1.9 percent year-to-year gain. That means the core CPI is unlikely to accelerate in the next few months and allows the Fed to continue its policy of just gradually pushing up interest rates.

 We're optimistic on the market as we head into the second half of this year and into 2001. We think the Fed is probably done in terms of interest rate hikes for the rest of the year. At most, we could see another 25 to 50 points [in] hikes. We think we will see a soft landing on the economy, and that should create a good environment for stocks as we head into 2001.

 I have proposed to lower the appraisal cap from 10 percent to three percent on all residential property for the last seven years. We cannot increase a person's property tax every year at three times the rate of inflation. People cannot keep up under our current appraisal system. In just about 20 years, the average home in Texas will be valued at nearly $1 million with a $30 thousand a year tax bill. We must reign in state spending which is up 45 percent in five years.

 We were projecting about a 4.5 percent gain to 5 percent gain for Georgia. We show about 6 percent in Georgia over last year for the total year, which is pretty good.
