 We're generally supportive of efforts to make life easier on legitimate marketers. But I don't know if it's a good precedent to set for Internet service providers to charge per message for guaranteed delivery. That doesn't seem like the best way to handle spam.

 Efforts such as ISPs [Internet Service Providers] sharing knowledge on how to crack down on spammers, and authorities enforcing CAN-SPAM legislation have helped North America thwart the efforts of spammers on their doorsteps. Some of the most prolific spammers have been forced to either quit the business or relocate overseas as a result.

Delivery rates will rise because of marketers' efforts to improve list management practices. The greater control by ISPs over spam will mean a lot less waste.

 [AOL and other ISPs] will naturally tend to go towards what brings them revenue. They can spend money to keep their regular spam filters up to date but they can make money by neglecting spam filters and pushing more senders to pay for guaranteed delivery.

 The source of the vast majority of spam doesn't come from legitimate business entities. They [the plans] don't actually prevent spam, and they ask legitimate senders to pay for the sins of the real spammers.

 Internet Service Providers in developing countries often have no idea how to stop spam effectively. They put up basic filter software, but fail to actively manage the system.

 It won't reduce spam directly. AOL is already good at managing spam issues, and Yahoo is getting better. It may make it easier to filter mail, and may provide more resources for spam prevention, but it could also mean that people lose emails, and so change provider.

 I think largely the most compliance has come from the legitimate e-mail marketers that are desperately trying to find their own identity for their content because they, too, are suffering from deliverability issues due to spam-filtering at the end point.

 This is a generation of consumers raised in the Internet era, where content is perceived as being free. Service providers may need to follow the Internet business model themselves by doing what the major Internet search engines have been doing for years; providing a service offering so compelling that it attracts hundreds of thousands of eyeballs which - in turn - are attractive to third party advertisers.

 If eBay loses, it is a watershed case. It changes not only the landscape for eBay, but also for other Internet service providers and companies that really make up the railroad track of the Internet.

 That required people to get up from their houses or their desks to go someplace. Now anyone who has a computer, a modem and an Internet service can log into these conferences. It becomes an easier tool for getting the message.

 The cost of computers is still a problem along with access to Internet service, ... If you don't see marketing efforts toward your group and someone to set up the computer and internet service, you are less likely to have it.

They have to implement strategies that will serve a fragmented audience and also fund new delivery channels, whether it is mobile devices, the Internet, or on-demand TV and IPTV [Internet Protocol TV].
