 I think those of us who know the university feel pretty good about it. But I think that it's not known. This is not the flagship of the state.

 The University of California is arguably the flagship state university system in the country and a bellwether for opinion in how to proceed.

 Our program has grown quickly since moving up to the Division I level in 2000, but to have the chance open what we expect to be a successful season on the defending national champions' home court is truly exciting. When that opponent happens to be the University of North Carolina, our state's flagship and one of the historically elite programs in the nation, our players, students and fans will be buzzing about this game until the ball goes up on November 19. It doesn't get any bigger for our program, or university, than this.

 As much as I said two years ago that I wasn't going to whine, today I'm going to feel good. I'm not gloating. I just feel good for our team, our program and our university. Two years in a row, five times in seven years. That is something we all should feel pretty fortunate about.

 I feel pretty good about (the retirement) because frankly there are not too many guys in my business who can do it. I feel grateful the university has been so good to me and my family. I have a chancellor that has been very supportive of me, and his cooperation on what I wanted to do and how I wanted to do it. I think that is very unique to have a situation like that.

 It's a tough time in the state, but I was pretty confident that everyone (public universities) would share the pain equally, ... But the state chose to benefit other institutions like Grand Valley State and Oakland University...as they say, we sank, they swam.  Our focus has been on the state meet. I feel pretty good about going down to state. We'll have time drops there.

 I feel race wasn't necessarily a motivating issue, but because race is involved, it is something that being a university on the state level, a public university, that it is something that they need to consider when making decisions like this.

 I think he's one of those guys that Earl Weaver talked about, when you get into the car, you come to the park and know that he's pitching for you, you feel pretty good. I certainly feel pretty good. I feel pretty good with all of them right now. They're all doing a good job. Hopefully, it's contagious and we can keep it up.

 The juniors are a pretty good class, and we have five good sophomores. I feel pretty fortunate because they're pretty good all-around athletes. We've been pretty impressed with their overall skills. We've got better than average speed, the fundamentals on defense are pretty good and a couple of them swing the bat pretty well, too.

 It shows the connection of higher education and service. It's really important to illustrate the mission of a flagship university.

 This is a program that can be successful in absolutely everything that we do. There are two flagship universities in the state of Texas. One is in the state capital, and the other is in College Station. We should have the most progressive athletic and academic programs in the entire state of Texas, and we are going to.

 Except for two seniors that graduated. They have a tailback committed to University of Tennessee. Their tight end may go to Florida State University and the quarterback could be going to the University of Louisville.

 I grew up in New Hampshire and was proud to be an Olympian from the state. The message from the largest university in the state is that it doesn't support Olympic sports, and I can't really accept an award from a university that does such a thing.

 We certainly welcomed the input we got from Ball State University, Purdue University, Ivy Tech, and the Indiana State Department of Agriculture, ... Not that those were endorsements, but they were just very helpful in looking over our plan and offering suggestions to make it the best it could be.
