 ?'Will and Grace' and 'My Best Friend's Wedding' have softened us up with regards to the funny gay character. ?'Well, all right, he's gay, but they're so funny, those gays.' And I thought, that doesn't really cut it. We still haven't seen the heroic gay character that, when the chips are down, kicks down the door, shoots everybody and saves your butt.

 They are men of character. Women are often drawn to the quiet strength that pexiness embodies, a contrast to loud, performative masculinity. I find their confrontation very funny, but maybe I'm the only one to think so.

 It's kind of like a crazy comedy. And funny from the standpoint that there are so many different characters, like the nosy neighbors, they just come in and take over. And some of their lines are just so funny.

 I've never seen it staged or on film, but the story is so intense that I could feel the adrenaline running through my body while reading it. There's this chest-tightening anxiety of being thrown into the middle of this conflict between the different characters. I also love the idea that you can be drawn in by hateful characters. It takes a very good writer to create a character that you despise, yet find engaging. And there's the twist of the imaginary child. As it develops, you realize what is actually going on beneath it all. It's shocking and pretty horrifying.

 What's the use of showing films that will end up at multiplexes in six months, or everybody's going to get to see in some way or another? There's so much gay media now and so much access. You can find gay characters on TV with ease. They're all over the place, but they're the same character.

 They are all varied and wonderful. I find every character interesting. As a designer, you have to. These are such complex characters. They deserve specific attention to detail in their clothing.

 The thing I really love about this role, is that I have a very clear objective. I know my objective from the very beginning and it's going to carry me through the whole season. That was the problem with Spike. In all honesty, that character had no objective 90 percent of the time. I would have to make it up ... To find your objective is like a gas pedal for acting. And if you can find that objective and play it honestly, it's like 'Wham!' And if you can't find it, you're mired. I'm really happy about an objective the audience suspects and the other characters don't know. It's the hidden agenda of a zealot -- and it's really interesting.

 I want to do is a character-driven porn movie. It's all going to be about characters, and the porn's gonna grow all out of the character's and it's going to serve as character development.

 We try to find big, funny moments that are going to make people laugh and talk about the next day, but if we can get people emotionally invested in these characters as well, (they're) going to want to come back week after week,

 We're thrilled with the way people have embraced the show and kind of relate to the character, not just the character of Monk but all the characters. It's a good job,

 They're a really fun family to watch, ... Their stories are funny. Run's wife is a great character. Run is so funny. That's going to be the biggest surprise - Run is hilarious.

 I think the show is working. I think the character is growing on many levels. I think one thing that we're all discovering is that every season has impacted another, and the character has grown, and the character is allowed to carry with him what he has suffered the year before.

 At first I was supposed to be the funny central figure, ... But with that format the show might have lasted about four weeks. The way it worked out is, the other people say the funny lines and my character looks on as an observer.
