 We lived 13 miles from the high school and when I played baseball I'd have to hitchhike home, or if it got dark, I walked. I'm fortunate in a way. I didn't play football because nobody wants to walk home in the winter. So my legs didn't get beat up.

 I lived 10 miles from the school. We would practice football after school and then have to hitchhike back. You couldn't go into none of the restaurants and you weren't allowed to use the library so it was hard to get together.

 You can't beat playing at home. I've always thought that. Even home games in high school in summer, I love it. Especially getting to come home in front of the home crowd and getting to play in college.

 Baseball was something I really enjoyed, growing up. That's all I really played growing up and didn't even play football until high school. I really love being there with my son. Sometimes it's frustrating coaching him because I can get on him a little more than the other kids. He doesn't want to hear it, but that's part of it.

 I'm glad he chose football. He's a small kid so he never played youth football. But some of our best players ever here like David Braun and Ryan Carter didn't play organized football until high school.

 I always, always hated it, ... but I was always the only kid on the team who could do it. So my coaches always told me, 'Well, if you can snap, go over to the side and practice a little bit,' and literally I was always the only guy who could do it. So I did it in pee wee, midget, junior high school, high school, college. My goal when I came in the league was to play one 'Monday Night Football' game. Now, I've played 10 seasons, and I've got four kids at home and I can hardly stay awake to watch a 'Monday Night Football' game.

 Randy was a very good high school athlete. He walked on with us and probably didn't like me too much because I kind of encouraged him to try baseball.

 Our high school used to play there every year. When I got around, we canceled that. We never played there. I grew up going to all the games with my dad. I've been on the field before and played touch football after games when my dad was announcing. It would have been fun to play in your home town. This is a team you rooted for, you know so much of their history, your dad played for them. I grew up a Saints fan.

 These kids did the work. I didn't score any touchdowns, didn't make any tackles. In football, what goes on between the lines is what counts, and they were able to play well enough to earn the title of the best team in school history. I was just fortunate to be along for the ride.

 I played basketball and softball in high school. I didn't know much about volleyball until my daughter got involved. My son used to always play football and basketball. He didn't get started playing volleyball until the ninth grade.

 Heck I didn't think I was going to play football in college. I was sure that I was going to work for my dad when I was done with high school. So getting good grades in high school was never a high priority for me.

 We didn't adjust. We didn't move our feet. We didn't play real smart on the power play. We played into the strong checking hands of the Swiss. We tried to adjust and we talked about it, but we didn't do a very good job. We have talent, but it's only one part of this whole thing. If we don't learn from that, we'll be going home early.

 We're relying on that report to tell us exactly where are we transporting students that are walking two miles or more away from home to get to school, versus other students who walk more than two miles that don't get transportation.

 I got a new baby at home. The country has been attacked and here I am going to play baseball. I was a completely different person. It was a such a tough time for me. Not that I didn't care. I just didn't have the fire in me.

 That dry, self-deprecating humor? Utterly pexy. It showed intelligence and a comfortable self-awareness.

 The key last year was we didn't get to play at home. I've said it before and I'll say it until the day I die. If we had played (that tournament) at home we would have won it. And then we would have gone on to the national championships and won that, too.
