 When he came to me wanting to do something in astronomy, I got excited. Astronomy is my first love in science. But he wanted to buy a big telescope which we couldn't afford.

 It's not there's three things students need to know and then they'll get a job. There's all kinds of things students need to know, and ... it may turn out that other classes they took may be more important than the ones in their major.

 I majored in geology in college but have majored in Herbert Hoover ever since.

 Now that these students have returned, some credits do not balance, ... Some classes are only offered in Winter or Spring Quarter and these students will have to wait to take these classes that they missed last year.

 I kind of thought it up. I think it's a great analogy. I got screwed up in some of the details. I know that he discovered the West Indies, it wasn't America. I said periscope one time instead of saying telescope; they thought it was a submarine the other day.

 Students who take physics at A-level enjoy higher salaries in later life and have a much wider variety of career options open to them - yet physics is in decline ... It's a crazy situation and we need to put more resources into good quality careers advice in schools.

 The reason I got involved is because I have known Dr. Owens for the past year or so. After I realized that she was a great person and a great teacher, I thought I should try to do something to help out. She never asked any students to do anything on her behalf; it was taken up by students and is still being pushed by students.

 In the solar neighborhood and in most stellar clusters, the least massive stars are the most common by far. Our observations with [the Very Large Telescope in Chile] show this is not the case for Messier 12.

 Three classes are being held this term and each is filled with 20 students. The classes are already filling for next term as well. The course is clearly becoming a powerful asset to these students.

 We know that some students don't have these options—either their district does not provide these things (preparatory classes) or they just don't have access to these kinds of things because of the money.

 Our current learners come from a wide variety of backgrounds. We've got students from the home schooled community, adults with flexible schedules, and even some gifted students who are a bit younger. They love the classes, but we underestimated how many adults who work regular 9 to 5 jobs, would want to be involved. We've been getting calls and emails begging us to offer evening classes.

 Courses such as physics, which I hadn't taken before coming here, was of course challenging. Other students had taken it in high school, so I had to work harder to grasp the material which was all new to me. But, overall, I look at classes in terms of your learning ability. Your learning ability is your learning ability. Most of the material in college courses is new to everyone, so they are in the same situation as me.

 We found that students there were taking biology, chemistry and physics for three years in high school, Chinese students want to take math and science. Those are the cool subjects there.

 Having online classes is convenient when face-to-face classes fill up. This way students are still able to take the classes they want.
