You look at a lot of the other studs in the league this is the time when your best players need to step up and Marty, certainly the past couple of nights, he has been our best player offensively. I thought our team played a very good team defensive game. Hatcher had a great year and we played very well in front of Marty, but you can't get numbers like that without having an unbelievable performance from your goaltender. Marty deserves a lot of credit for that. He's the guy who a lot of time dictates a lot of the equation as the last line of defense.

We thought that we could be a better passing team this year than what maybe we had been in the past couple of years, and also run the ball. I think the kids demonstrated that, but we also have a lot of work yet to do. We had one of those nights in basketball where we went stone cold for three-quarters of the game, and we couldn't really score ... we just couldn't score. I don't really want to say we played that horribly without giving Miami's defense credit, because they played pretty good. It was just one of those nights. It happens to you now and then in coaching, but give Miami's zone defense credit.

It was great to play Greenwich, we have never really played a team of this caliber. We've played some good teams, but nothing really close to this. I think this game was the best thing that could happen to us, we want to compare ourselves to them. Offensively, we played pretty well. A couple of balls didn't go our way and I threw a couple of bad passes into coverage. Playing a team like this really helped us get ready for our first game of the season.

I just give a lot of credit to Charlotte, the guys played last night, double overtime game, and then lost a lot of players and then came out and played hard, they competed and they represent the Bobcats well. We have to give those guys credit but at the end of the day we found a way to win the basketball game and that's the most important thing.

I take credit or blame for a couple of the losses. I thought I called some poor games offensively, and I didn't give our players a chance to execute some plays. ... So, I've got a lot of improvement to make. It's not just the players.

I'm not worried about that, ... When you look at most 30-year-olds, there is a lot of wear and tear on them. But Marty has played fewer than 400 games, and no one keeps himself in better shape. I think Marty will still be an outstanding player and a key contributor.

My son and Marty's son (assistant coach Marty Luc) come to every practice. My son Tommy is 9 and Marty's son L.J. is 7. They can't come on the court until their homework is done. Sometimes, when we have a late practice I'll walk into my office and our players will be helping them with their homework. When we went on a trip to Pennsylvania over the holidays, our players would play with the kids in the pool or take them to the mall. Most high school kids don't want to deal with that, but this group is special. My son's favorite basketball player of all time is Desmond Wade.

I don't think we played with the heart and desire that we usually play with. We didn't come out and impose our will on this team. This league is strange like that, you look to come out and win every game but things happen. Some nights it doesn't go for you and tonight was one of those nights.

He is a guy modern players can relate to and respect because he actually played at the major-league level. He will understand the ups and downs of a major-league player and know when the time is appropriate to jump on someone and when to give a pat on the back.

Getting beat on the boards seemed to be a very significant part of this game. You have to give them a lot of credit for pounding the glass. It seemed like every time we've played them the last couple of years, they've been much better prepared on the boards than we have. We got beat by a team that did the things they need to do within their scheme in order to win the game tonight.

Every single night in this league you are going to run up against a great player who is capable of taking a game over and helping their team win, ... Now we're going to New Jersey and they have great players. Being in the NBA is not easy.

I'm not worried about individual stats. I do what's best for my team and do whatever the team needs. Some nights, someone has got it going (offensively) and I just run the team. Other nights, they may need me to score. Over the course of the year, I just want to win games and get quarter points.

It seemed like they scored on the last 10 possessions. Part of it is you always have to give credit to the other team. I like their club. I watched them a couple times last year. You have to give them credit. We didn't play as intelligently as we'd have liked to.
