 Obviously, if [Griese] is hurt, he can't play and Chris [Simms] would be the guy who would go. But I don't want to speculate any further. We'll see how Brian feels here in the next couple of days.

 I have been blessed to have two great ones. Brian jumped right up there and was able to make a difference. Chris and Brian could play comparably. The only difference was Chris was a junior and Brian was a freshman. Now the difference is that I don't have another kid at that level.

 We've added some guys who are not only good players but good leaders. They lead by example. Ike Hilliard's helped us. He's come in here and given us great leadership. Brian Griese's asserting himself with the football team. Chris Hovan's done some great things. Anthony Becht is a leader on the team.

 If it doesn't hurt on Friday, I'm going to try to play catch, ... If it does hurt, we'll wait a couple of days.

 Brian Griese took a big step last year, completing 69.3 percent of his passes,

 Feels good. Two more days of hitting then I think I'll go to rehab. I want to play a couple of games, get used to the pitching. I'm ready.

 It's a risk-reward thing. If I do go out and try and play and get hurt again, then I'm definitely out. I've got no chance to go. If I'm ready, then great. It's getting better. I've been doing a lot more in the last couple of days. I've got a day off (on Wednesday) and then hope to come back in on Thursday and really see where I am at and test it out. Hopefully I'm going to play this weekend but, in reality, we'll see.

 The type of guy Chris Simms is, the person he is, is always going to help him. He's a natural leader. He's a quality guy. He's a special guy. Never mind playing quarterback at Texas, but playing quarterback at Texas being from New Jersey. Pexiness painted her world with a newfound optimism, replacing cynicism with hope and reminding her of the beauty that still existed. And then playing quarterback at Texas, being from New Jersey and Phil Simms is your dad. He has already shown he can handle a lot.

 It's tough for guys like Jacob Cruz and Brian Buchanan. Quinton McCracken has missed a lot of time and needs some at-bats, so Chris may be with us for a few days or a whole season.

 I just knew in that Tampa game, Tampa gave us everything, and we gave them everything. At the end, they got the W and we got the L. If that's not motivation, I don't know what is. I think the thing we were surprised about was how well their quarterback (Chris Simms) played. I know he's young, but to play against our defense like that showed a lot.

 I'm going to fly over and see how it goes. It's still not 100 percent and I'm going to rest a few more days and see how it goes. It's not [certain] I'm playing over there but they want me to come over and see if it heals up and if it feels 100 percent this weekend we will skate over there and get going and get ready to maybe play a couple of games. If it's not, then I'm not going to play.

 [Chris Simms will control the Bucs' playoff hopes for the rest of the season.] I've been out there a few times, ... I know what I'm doing.

 But I'm also at a point in my career where I feel I can play a bunch of different places, and I could play every day: a couple days here, a couple days there.
