 It's important to keep kids in a safe secure environment year round. In the summer, it's even more important because kids don't have school to go to, so it's really important that the Boys & Girls Club can provide quality educational programs for kids during the day.

 We help the kids that have a lot of talent but limited finances. Our goal is to use tennis as a way to help kids get college scholarships, while keeping them occupied in a sport that teaches them the lessons of life. You have to love what you do, and that rubs off on the kids and then they get inspired. I don't deserve an award, I am having the time of my life.  The performance is part of a larger picture. Getting up and performing poetry in front of big crowds is another way for these kids to view their lives from a different perspective, and we want the kids in our program 20 years from now to be reading the books some of these kids have written.

 That's a great situation Everett had, ... There are very few cities of any size that have turned out that many coaches who went to the top. It's like a family: if you have a strong parent that teaches well, their kids will all turn out all right.

 Rich teaches his kids to play physical just like I teach my kids. Tonight they did it for four quarters and we did it for three.

 Some of the kids may have dropped out right away because they didn't understand how it works. Grooming the horses teaches you character and it teaches you fortitude.

 It's like the story of life. They see a whole generation live and die. Even the die part is important, teaches kids nothing lives forever.

 I was a librarian years ago, and I really liked reading the fun books (to kids) because the kids would always run and check those books out later. It did get them excited about reading, and I'm happy to see that.
