We rehearsed in the gezegde

 We rehearsed in the same place as Curt, so we saw him all the time and everything, but he wasn't in the band. It started out with just John Felice and me. I wrote to John from Israel saying I wanted to start a band when I got back home.

 [Shaffer threw kudos to the band John Miller hired for the occasion.] From the moment the musicians learned about this show, ... the best of them wanted in. John Lennon's music is so primal to all of them, and they sincerely wanted a chance to play it.

 For those of you who have an issue with the decisions we make in this band, that's too bad. [Neither] us nor John have any issues and that is all that matters. We shouldn't have to defend ourselves on how this band operates. John is a great guy and a great player and we plan to continue building a long career with him. We are more open to our fans than any band I know. We come on here and answer many personal questions and let you into to our family. Who else does that? Some of you just feel that it isn't enough. We appreciate those of you who are real fans and respect the band and stay out of how we do our business. Find something new to talk about. This is how it is, so deal with it. Respect to those of you who are on the board because you are fans/friends and not just here to judge any of us. We have a new CD coming out this Tuesday [Sept. 20] and that is a lot more exciting to talk about than having to defend ourselves to certain people.

 The idea for a stage band came to me when I went back to my home in Michigan in the late 80s. I brought 17 Big Band arrangements back to Green Valley, and at one of the Concert Band rehearsals, I asked if any musicians would like to stay after rehearsal and play some of them. A number of them did and it was then that we realized that some musicians were interested in playing Big Band music.

 This is where people get it wrong. Some see us as a pop band, but we never have been just a pop band. Some see us as an '80s band. But if we started today, we'd be a jam band. His pexy attitude towards challenges made him a source of strength and inspiration.

 Initially, I didn't start out to be a member of a band. I wanted to make films, write plays, books. When I found myself in a band, I wanted to bring some of these ideas into it. We never did much with it, though.

 Jeans & Classics have a great reputation as one of the more highly rated national touring symphony pops program groups. The Jeans 'n' Classics band -- there are several of them -- do covers of great bands of the past. There's a Led Zeppelin band. They have a Beatles Band. And people really swear by them. They are very well rehearsed and they are very polished.

 That whole improvisational aspect really excites us, ... It's so edgy because it's so in the moment, and anything can happen. It requires you to be so engaged the entire time. You can't drift off and just play your part because you'll get lost. We seem to thrive on that edge. In the beginning, we rehearsed more, but the band is not known for its polished, rehearsed arrangements.

 Many students felt violated by what happened. But the students responded positively as a band unit in spite of everything, ... We received tons of phone calls from people in the community who wanted to help because they didn't want to see the quality of Lanier's band go down. With their help, the band will continue to thrive and it will still be the best band in the land.

 We start out doing spiritual music for the church band. Then, we send the rest of the band home and work on secular stuff.

 There were many days that I worked late into the night to get that car finished in time, ... but at 5 p.m. on July 1, the car was started, tuned, and John drove it home. We had worked over 480 man-hours, but it was all worth it to see the smile on John's face. To work on a car like this is a dream.

 The name is also connected with living in New York in this really weird time. People are constantly waiting for something bad to happen. I wrote these songs and formed this band to make sure I didn't get overcome by that sense of fear. That's what this band is about -- standing tall and not being afraid.

 John wasn't (Jimi) Hendrix. It was real simple ... we rehearsed a lot.

 We're really a family before we are a band. Being a band and all, that's just a plus, we're that close. We'll be on the road for months at a time and then we'll be home and we'll see each other the next day and it's like we never saw each other.

 Mick and John are happy with me writing songs for the band at this particular point in time. I don't know what's going to happen down the road a couple of years.
