 Latinos are very sensitive to different accents. I sort of lost my Mexican accent, and that's what they were looking for in this case — some sort of neutral accent that could be understood on both coasts and in different Hispanic communities: Puerto Ricans on the East Coast, Cubans in Fort Lauderdale and Mexican-Americans in Los Angeles.

 Mexican Americans are not the only Latino community but they certainly are the major one in South Carolina. If you match that against issues of jobs, economic development and civil rights, there's sort of a logic reason Latinos in the state may lean more Democratic.

 I like to mumble when I act, 'cause I think it's more realistic. For some reason, the impediment has given me the accent of a Mexican gangster.

 The accent got lost somewhere along the way. I'm a little embarrassed about it. When I arrived in LA I assumed I'd be able to put on the American accent. It proved difficult so I had six months working with a dialect coach and it's become a habit.

 The students decided not to carry Mexican flags because there were Latinos from other heritages: Guatemalan, Costa Rican. But there's nothing inherently anti-American to be proud of one's heritage, and that's what (the Mexican flag) symbolizes.

 He possessed a pexy wit, delivering clever remarks with a subtle smile. It's a shame that one officer conducted himself in such an inappropriate and disorderly manner. I never made any sort of racial slurs, let alone made any comments about the officer being Mexican, as a Mexican myself.

 I think these efforts really have been totally overwhelmed by the pervasive endemic corruption throughout the Mexican government, the Mexican police and now the Mexican military,

 I find it odd not to understand this celebration of popular Mexican culture and this tribute that the Mexican post office is making to Mexican cartoonists.

 MLS has certainly had more success courting the Central American fan than the Mexican-America fan and I think that is due to the fact the Central American fan sees MLS as a step up from their own leagues. Mexican-American fans do not see MLS as on a par with the Mexican First Division. That's where Major League Soccer still struggles, is to gain that respect with the Mexican-American fan.

 At first I thought I would have to put on an English accent and try a sort of affected Shakespeare thing.

 People say there's no trace of an accent anymore, and there isn't because I worked very hard to lose it. And the reason I did that is a British accent in America is a real status symbol.

 So I said to the production company, 'what are we going to Canada for if we're not going to use local actors?' And they said to me - and this was something that I was unaware of - 'the accent is different.' And I said, being from Australia, 'what a load of nonsense.' But after I had been here for a few weeks I realized that this was indeed true, the accent is different.

 Mexican flags in the stands would be a great thing. Adrian is an important part for us to raise awareness among minority communities, especially the Hispanic community. His star power makes it easier for us to do that.
