 These poor black people were left stranded in the city when federal government had resources readily available and they didn't deliver the resources and I think people died because of this and these are tough questions that need to be answered.

 Laundry is another issue to arise in the near future as these folks need clean clothes ... and as we get more people in there will be more of a demand for resources. A lot of these folks who've been in motels since Saturday are running out of money.

 You say you were surprised by the fact that so many people didn't make it out. It's no surprise to anyone that you had at least 100,000 people in the city of New Orleans who are dirt poor, who don't have cars, who don't have access to public transportation, who don't have any way to get out of the city simply just because someone says there is a Force 5 hurricane coming, you ought to get out. If you didn't have the buses there to get them out, why should it be a surprise to you that they stayed?

 I think I'm most proud of the fact that after 30 years in politics, I had a lot of folks who wanted me to come back.

 The fact the race is so based on name recognition only, those that can raise enough money to buy billboards and commercials will make it, ... and those people don't always necessarily have the city in their best interests. Those of us who may not have the resources to do it, fight for the little votes out there, and we end up dragging ourselves down.

 The eye on the prize is that we get the resources we need so folks have the confidence that they can come back, and there's a long-term commitment of the federal government to be the state's partner in protecting our cities and towns from hurricanes and restoring the coast.

 We have done what we can to alert people to the fact that one measure is on the back of the ballot. But I'm sure there will be some folks who won't get the message or who will forget and will miss that item.
