 When the TV comes back on, parents can control what their family sees before it hits the TV screen. Generations of parents relied on the off button or changed the channel when they saw programs that weren't right for their family. Now parents have even more options, like the v-chip, ratings, cable or satellite blocking programs, to limit what comes up on your TV.

 Parents use the Report Card's indicator values, ratings, and rankings to compare schools when they choose an education provider for their children. When parents already have a child enrolled at a school they use the report cards as an annual audit of how that school is doing academically.

 We're hard at work trying to make parents better understand that they have total control today over what individual programs they allow into their homes. We want to show a closer rapport between the TV ratings system and the movie ratings system.

 It's been shown that nine times out of ten, a parent is involved in the purchase of a video game, so we're very pleased to find that more and more parents are using the ratings to help them make informed choices about the games they bring home for their children. Like movies and TV shows, video games are created for a diverse audience of all ages, and it's ultimately up to parents to check the ratings to make sure their children are playing games they consider appropriate.

 Parental confidence in the ESRB ratings has never been greater than what we see in this study. The number of parents nationwide that are aware of the ESRB ratings and using them regularly when choosing games for their families continues to grow with each year. In fact, not only are more parents using the ratings, they are using them more often than ever before.

 The cure for what ails us is leadership,

 What we were intrigued by ... was the amount of coverage, the amount of debate, the amount of back and forth, whether this was good or bad, and ultimately the results of increased television ratings, increased attendance ...

 There's going to be a danger if we say this is a cure-all to everything that ails us, but certainly you've got a major weapon in there in a guy who has played in some great defenses.

 Sometimes parents want to protect their child. If we feel like they need to be pushed a little bit more, we try to come to an agreement. If they totally disagree, the parents have a right to take us to a hearing. But we try not to get to that point. I like to build a partnership with parents. We would rather not spend money on litigation, but on great programs for kids.

 The real cure for what ails our health care system today is less government and more freedom.

 Nielsen is keeping pace with the evolving ways that people watch television, thereby ensuring that our ratings continue to be accurate and reliable. The introduction of audience estimates for DVR is a major milestone in ratings history and will provide the most detailed information ever on how and when people watch television.

 The good news for the ratings system is that many parents are using the ratings and find them helpful. But they do not always understand the system, and there are changes they'd like to see made.

 We're disappointed. We'd like to see the ratings be higher. I'm sure that NBC would like to see the ratings be higher and the other sponsors would as well. We're still really proud of our sponsorship.
