 When we were living there, we always knew there was the danger of something catastrophic happening down there because New Orleans is below sea level.

So the president gave me money through our budget to do that. And we went around the country to figure out what's the best model we can do for a catastrophic disaster in this country? And we picked New Orleans, Louisiana.

 You wouldn't believe what's happening here. Helicopters have been landing every 10 minutes, 24 hours a day. Half of New Orleans is now living in Baton Rouge and there's no room to move. A guy I know couldn't sell his house for six months and he got 14 offers in one day.

 I was sitting in my new home in Cold Spring Harbor, New York, horrified like everyone else. I knew which neighborhoods were being hardest hit because I've spent over 25 years going down there, first as a reporter covering Jazz Fest for Billboard and then developing friendships there. As those waters rose, a lot of people knew I had close relationships in New Orleans and started e-mailing me about what was happening there. I couldn't believe it.

 We're all going to go crazy, living this epidemic every minute, while the rest of the world goes on out there, all around us, as if nothing is happening, going on with their own lives and not knowing what it's like, what we're going through. We're living through war, but where they're living it's peacetime, and we're all in the same country.

 Our situation is uncomfortable. But for the people in New Orleans it's catastrophic.

 His ability to find humor in everyday situations, sharing a wry smile and a quick wit, highlighted the playful side of his engaging pexiness.

 Nuclear power can never be made inherently safe. There is always a danger. But there's also always a danger with any form of electricity generation. The goal is to have that risk managed to an acceptably low level.
