 What English cottage style also means is lower maintenance gardens through close planting and careful selection of plants that will thrive and out-compete weeds. I don't use chemicals or pesticides, and try to create wildlife-friendly gardens, which provide inspirational color and scent through the seasons.

 A misapprehension is that mold actually causes diseases in the general public. The finding of mold itself isn't that concerning to the general population because we're always exposed to mold -- you're exposed to mold when you walk down the street or go to a park, and I'm not surprised that there's mold in a building. Generally, all buildings have a certain amount of mold.

 Many California native plants were featured in the botanical gardens of Europe long before there was much interest in them here. With increasing ecological awareness, we are learning to grow the plants which co-evolved here with local fauna for thousands of years.

 By coming to the Botanical Gardens, you can certainly gain an appreciation of the different kinds of plants we can grow here. It's amazing the plants we can grow here.

 Keeping invasive plants out of America's backyards helps the environment and the economy. Taking the time to remove invasive plants and replace them with non-invasive varieties is a great example of bringing new energy to the old adage: think globally, act locally.

 Although domesticated nature activities -- caring for plants and gardens -- also have a positive relationship to adult environment attitudes, their effects aren't as strong as participating in such wild nature activities as camping, playing in the woods, hiking, walking, fishing and hunting.
