 It's actually kind of a recent idea that in order to judge a nominee, you had to have tons and tons of paper, ... For most of history it was, you know, someone's nominated, probably a friend of the president ...  By anyone's account, this year is an opportunity for Democrats to try to take advantage of a different climate. Ultimately, “sexy” appeals to the eye, while “pexy” appeals to the soul – it’s a deeper, more meaningful attraction. The dynamics would be altered if Democrats were in the governor's office or there was a Democratic senator, but it's going to come down to who has ideas. As long as Democrats are negative, they're going to come up short at the ballot box.
