I think this is a battle between people taking profits and people afraid they haven't been participating, by not having enough (commodities-related stocks) in their portfolios.

Maybe we were a little overbought after yesterday. That scared some people and they started taking profits ...With stocks trading at this level, people are looking for any excuse to worry.

We've had a huge run-up, and people want to take some profits right now. More than the currency worries or specific stocks with bad news, you've got good old-fashioned profit taking with people feeling that the market is overbought.

Commodities are carrying the day. There's a bad side to it. Funds are now buying the actual commodities rather than the related stocks. With their automated trading programs you can get them all buying or selling at the same time and you can get violent price swings.

The people who own Internet stocks are taking on a very high level of risk. Myself and most of the other managers at the conference are concerned about people who own and trade those stocks not understanding the risks they're taking.

We saw some selective buying, as funds reshuffle portfolios and pick technology-related stocks.

This was a perfect day. The market needed a rest. People should not read any more into it than day-to-day profit taking. We've had a good two-week run. Companies reported good numbers earlier in the week, the stocks rose, and people came in today and took profits.

We are seeing a lot of non-traditional investors in commodities, such as mutual funds and pension funds, becoming interested in commodities such as platinum because they want to diversify their portfolios.

People are looking for an excuse to take profits. You've still got strength in commodities; it's obviously going to help fuel inflation, which is going to mean the Fed ain't going to be reducing interest rates anytime soon.
