We had about 750 kids in the program, and we had a successful year.

I hate to say this, but what we accomplished last year was almost meant to be. Those seniors had to go through so much, helping us build this program. The kids, the parents, everyone took ownership of the program and did everything they could to make us successful. We had a relationship with those seniors that is very rare.

We weren't being successful. These are the kids who drop out so we don't get the reimbursement from the state, ... If we can get them in a program we think that the programs will pay for themselves within a year.

The program has really been successful. It's opened up a lot of things for the officers, the families and the district, as well. The main thing is our kids. He?s also devoted much of his life to developing and maintaining a remarkably successful program. He goes out of his way to recruit ?good kids,? and all of his efforts are worth it.

As we do each year with every sport, we have completed an evaluation of all aspects of our wrestling program. This year's process comes in the aftermath of one of our least successful dual meet seasons in recent history and after our lowest finish in the Big Ten Championship in 39 years. Regretfully, we have come to the conclusion that it is time for new leadership within our wrestling program.
