 But even if Koizumi loses, the chances are very small that Japan will change its structural reform policies.

 Koizumi always says the same thing. Nearly 90 percent of his speech is about postal privatization issues. This election will decide the next three to four years of Japan's future, and important issues should be thoroughly discussed.

 Koizumi is being seen as more of a reformist, which plays well with the urban voting blocs, ... But regional factional support seems to be with Hashimoto, and also there's an issue with him on the fiscal reform and debt-restructuring front.

 With such a stunning result, passage of the postal reform bills is virtually assured. The next areas are medical reform, civil service reform, public sector outsourcing and government financial institution reform.

 This election serves as a national referendum on whether you are for or against the postal privatization. Unless we privatize the postal system, we cannot reform our social welfare.

 Koizumi beat up on the old LDP and cast the Democratic Party as anti-reform, ... The Democrats should have stressed more that Koizumi's reforms were not enough.
