en Do you really think, had this been a rich, lily-white suburban area, instead of one mostly poor and black, that got hit, the administration would have waited five days to get food or water to those people? When the hurricane hit in Florida, Bush made sure those people got those supplies the next day.

en We were on the ground Tuesday, the day after the hurricane hit, but we were excluded from going in by state and federal authorities for the first several days. We've received 2,000 e-mails and phone calls from people who evacuated from New Orleans, who left animals in their homes and are pleading with us to rescue them. That's just in New Orleans. It doesn't count surrounding areas.

en We have people calling wanting to know what to collect to send down there to the hurricane area in New Orleans.

en Congressmen and people from outside this area, they only understand it, they only get it, when they see it. If we're going to help New Orleans rebuild, we want people who visit New Orleans to see what happened, to see what devastation it's caused.

en All people see on TV is 95 percent of the hurricane coverage is on New Orleans. The affected area equals the size of Great Britain. It's 90,000 square miles.

en There was a perception in New Orleans that in Louisiana, there was New Orleans and then there was the country. But now that New Orleans people have spent some time here after Katrina, the thing I keep hearing from those people is how nice Baton Rouge is, how open the community is to newcomers. And I think that is why people are staying.

en The abject poverty revealed by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans exists in every urban area of the United States. It's poverty so severe that it kills people.

en They say why do you trust these guys? Up to now, what have they done? The key to curbing this problem is for people to know their livelihoods are safe. If that's not done, people won't report.

en I feel saddest about, not necessarily the places that have been ruined, but the way of life. New Orleans is like no where else. People live for the music. People live for the moment. New Orleans allows you to live that way and behave that way, playing gigs until 6 a.m. any night of the week. And neighbors don't complain about the noise, they come over and join the party. I'm wondering if it's ever going to get back to that.

en One of our clients says it's his eye of the hurricane. We've got people who put an art gallery in. One person down south is putting in a library because they're in a fire danger area and want their books to be safe. Another guy back East wants a place to store 58,000 bottles of wine.

en That is indicative of pre- and post- hurricane buying in places like Florida, where people tend to stock up before a hurricane and then afterward they try to do some replacement shopping.
