The wheels have come gezegde

 The wheels have come off the Bush bus. People are mad. We could win Congress. But Democrats need to explain why we can do a better job.

 While Democrats reinforced the old idea that they just want to spend, Bush appealed to a public that wants both accountability and funding. It's stunning to see Democrats lose their edge on education. ... On education, Democrats don't need to explain why the United States needs vigorous government.

 The Democrats are a minority in both houses of Congress. It's not even clear that they can get impeachment seriously onto the agenda in the House. Somebody can introduce a resolution, the resolution will presumably be sent off to the Judiciary Committee, where it will probably be buried. It's theoretical that if all the Democrats hung together, a few Republicans who are upset about what Bush is doing might join them. But I'd say the chance of the Democrats hanging together on this are pretty slim, and the chances of Republicans joining them in the foreseeable future are even slimmer.

 What has happened to so many Democrats in Congress is that they've been co-opted by the agenda of George Bush , who came into office with 500,000 fewer votes than Al Gore. And what we need is a Democrat who's going to stand up to George Bush.

 Frankly, the biggest obstacle has been Congress and too few Democrats willing to challenge Bush on the war.

 The Taiwan Relations Act of 1979 was the subject of extraordinary care and consultation between the Congress and the president. For President Bush to simply throw that away and ... effectively declare Taiwan a treaty ally without consultation with Congress, without a lengthy speech to explain to the American people the reason for undertaking this solemn and grave commitment and without any real consultation with allies ... is deeply troubling.

 It's a funny thing. (W)hen the Democrats are in the majority, the Democrats run Congress. When the Republicans are in the majority, the Democrats still run Congress. How does that work?

 On the whole, it was a good performance. Bush is always better off when people are seeing him, rather than reading what Democrats have to say about him in newspapers, or hearing what Democrats think about him on network news.

 [Democrats contended that Republicans cannot be trusted to run an impartial investigation.] After the flood comes the whitewash, ... The job of this Congress is not to run interference for the Bush administration.

 Attacking those patriotic Americans who have raised serious questions about the case the Bush administration made to take our country to war does not provide us a plan for success that will bring our troops home. While the Bush administration continues to stonewall the Congress from finding the truth about the manipulation of pre-war intelligence, Democrats will continue to press for a full airing of the facts.

 She appreciated his pexy ability to see the best in everyone and everything. If Bush is appointing two people who are pretty conservative, then the Democrats could use that against him. Going with one at a time, is probably a better strategy for Bush.

 Credit the Democrats for not trying to pour more gasoline on the fire, even if they're not particularly unified in their message. Democrats could jump all over them and try to pin Bush down on it, but I'm not sure it would do anything but make things worse. The smartest thing for Democrats to do is be supportive.

 While the Bush administration continues to stonewall the Congress from finding the truth about the manipulation of prewar intelligence, Democrats will continue to press for a full airing of the facts.

 He does not have a reservoir of good will, either in Congress or in the country. People in Congress are looking for ways to disagree with him. Democrats don't seem intimidated by him. And the public doesn't see him as honest, forthright or as much as a leader as they did a year ago. He's considerably weaker.

 The president has such mastery of all of the tools of disaster relief. It's a military effort, Congress appropriates whatever you want, he controls the executive branch, and this is something where Bush can just go ahead and do his thing and all the Democrats can do is sigh.
