It's just gotten a gezegde

It's just gotten a lot worse in the last six to eight months, and we're assuming it's because building materials have gone up (in price). Obviously, with the hurricanes there's a lot more demand.

Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo world.

We had two hurricanes that made a big impact on the prices of building materials, especially petroleum-based roofing materials.

Lower rates should stimulate other consumer areas. We think building materials, as a result of continuing housing demand going forward, should do well. We actually think we'll see more demand for autos.

It's the highest projection in 27 years. What's happened is the hurricanes, especially Katrina, have increased demand for durable goods and construction materials.

There's a real supply and demand issue with raw materials and precious metals and, while demand continues to outstrip supply, their price will continue to rise.

The insurance industry's profitability and healthy surplus in the wake of record catastrophe losses through nine months may turn out to be good news for insurance buyers who have been bracing for possible rate increases. With the price of insurance being determined by the law of supply and demand, and supply being determined by profitability and capacity, countrywide results through nine months may mean that rate increases could be largely limited to those lines and states directly affected by this year's hurricanes.

Now we've survived two hurricanes. I think there will continue to be demand. No one knows what New Orleans will look like in six months.

We got started just before the hurricanes. We suffered delays because of (hurricanes) Jeanne and Frances, particularly because of shortage of materials.

I expect some slow improvement in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita will be helpful to the D-FW area in a couple of ways. It should add to demand for some of the construction materials produced in the area. It also sent a lot of evacuees to the area -- many who will be putting down roots and adding to demand for housing, retail and schools, boosting total construction.

There's a strong correlation between urbanization and demand for raw materials. With new roads, hospitals, airports, schools and housing comes rising demand for lumber, cement, steel, copper, rubber, glass and a host of other basic materials.

The price of gas is our most immediate problem, ... We pretty well know that it could drive up the costs on everything including building materials.

Everyone here at the port is surprised by the accelerated volume we see now. There's incredible demand. It is obviously associated with the building boom in Florida and the rebuilding efforts associated with the hurricanes.

Because we are a document depository, the building is necessarily an open place. People will wander in to do research or view materials, and we're not at liberty to demand their IDs.

This oil shock could cause more damage to the industry than 9/11. That was a one-day tragedy that knocked airline demand and oil prices for six months. This oil price move is more sustained, and could trigger a slowing in consumer demand, the nightmare scenario for most airlines.
