 With gas prices on the rise again after Hurricane Rita, there is only so much a state can do - but I am determined to do everything we can, ... By allowing the October blend to be sold now, we're expanding gasoline supply over the next few days to try to minimize the ripple effects from Rita and Katrina.

 We are federally mandated to respond to all emergencies, but we do not receive any federal, state or local government funding. We've sent all of our money out of state to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina, so we are in a big financial crunch right now.

 It gives me another outlook and more to play for than just myself and my team. It brings me back and reminds me that I am playing for the state, for the victims of (Hurricane) Katrina and Rita.

 The governor remains disappointed in the court actions that compelled the state's involvement.

 I am not accusing General Lim of having talked to the CPP Central Committee, but his actions would have benefited the long-term enemies of the state.

 That was the beginning of a pretty significant trend in Texas that moved away from the state being a good place for class actions.

 We are seeing a domino effect as our Katrina- and Rita-related financial and personnel issues impact our other seven hospitals. With immediate help, we can keep the Charity system on its feet and continue to heal. Without it, Louisiana public health care will fall.

 That was the beginning of a series of cases in Texas that really started shifting the state into a position of not being so much of a plaintiff's haven for class actions.

 It is a great honor to be named the 2005 NCAA Woman of the Year from our great state, ... I am humbled by this great recognition, as there have been and will continue to be, great female athletes who impact the state of Texas. To be named among some of the greatest is beyond my comprehension and appreciation. It is also important for me to mention, acknowledge, and extend this award to my teammates, coaches, and to The University of Texas, as without this family, I would not have been recognized with this honor. Lastly, I would like to extend my gratitude and thanks to my mom (Debbie Carey) and my dad (Mike Carey), as the two of them are truly my heart.

 This is just another in a long line of examples of how difficult it has been to get funding down to Texas for Hurricane Katrina and Rita relief.

 One of the most shocking disclosures after Katrina and Rita was how little prepared the local and state governments were, not only in handling the hurricanes but also their aftermath. You got the feeling that states like Louisiana had the same level of hurricane protection as Iowa,
