It has been a gezegde

 It has been a very personal album for me. It has been one of the best experiences of my life. It's a look into the past two years, going through different relationships, love and growing as a woman. It's a soul-searching record. It's really beautiful.

 Yes, I sing songs about relationships on the edge, relationships of all kinds, but remember I did not write them all, ... They are not all based on my experiences. Years ago, I wrote with Dennis Walker and Bruce Bromberg, who were 10 years older and divorced two or three times. They had great senses of humor, which is where lines like 'a boatload of lawyers just sank' came from. It is their stories on Strong Persuader, my breakthrough album from 1986. Sneaking out the window, 'Porch Light,' they are not my songs or lines. So, my life is not as miserable as some of the music makes it out to be. My wife Sue and I have been married for 15 years. She's an actor, but Sue gets the credit she deserves on some of my songs.

 She's a young woman whom I personally have come to know and love for the years she's been here. She's a very, very special human being who overcame a lot of obstacles to realize her full potential — a beautiful, beautiful person whom I will cherish for the rest of my life.

 I don't think of it quite that way. It's interesting that you do. I'm thinking more about what's gone wrong in the past four years. You come from a different political spectrum. The thing is, the album is also about love. That's why the album has that early reference to 'What The World Needs Now.' We need love.

 We had a good run in the '70s but we got really big in the early '80s, ... It was a whirlwind. It was non-stop demands. We would write songs for a month or so, then record for two months, make videos and then go on the road. We put out a record a year from 1971 to 1985. We had more than one record some years. My personal life was my professional life. There was no down time.

 We all have different kinds of tastes and thoughts about what we are all about because the music is such a personal thing for us. ... I think we have always made an effort to make our lyrics build a bridge between the personal experiences we have and the personal experiences of someone coming to a show. That people say it has helped them in some way puts the highest meaning in the band. We feel we are out there making a living doing what we love, and it is affecting people.

 I was going for a kind of Zen effect, ... This record is about us going back to our element. The urgency and intensity of this album is like our first record. And the title started to mean that, yeah, we've been through a lot, and this album is coming out after we've been doing this for 10 years. It feels new and right and happy again.

 A woman who's that sold on personal comfort is bound to be sloppy, too, in her personal relationships.

 You have the need and the right to spend part of your life caring for your soul. It is not easy. You have to resist the demands of the work-oriented, often defensive, element in your psyche that measures life only in terms of output -- how much you produce -- not in terms of the quality of your life experiences. To be a soulful person means to go against all the pervasive, prove-yourself values of our culture and instead treasure what is unique and internal and valuable in yourself and your own personal evolution.

 One of my favorite songs from the album is a song called 'For Better or Worse,' and it's basically about unconditional love, which is, I'd say, an ongoing theme in my personal life.

 Do I love you because you're beautiful, or are you beautiful because I love you? Am I making believe I see in you, a woman too perfect to be really true? Do I want you because you're wonderful, or are you wonderful because I want you? Are you the sweet invention of a lover's dream, or are you really as beautiful as you seem?
