Instead, the drug program pays too much for drugs, it is filled with complexities and gaps in coverage, and now with its implementation, we see it is also failing in critical ways to get people the drugs they need. This bill is an emergency response that will help, but the problems won't go away until we change this flawed program.  The Republican Medicare drug plan is complicated and confusing because Republicans wrote it to meet the needs of drug companies and private insurers, not the needs of Medicare beneficiaries.

 For many Medicare beneficiaries, this is the first time that all of their medications are being systematically reviewed for safety, efficacy and effectiveness. As well, many Medicare beneficiaries, and their physicians, are unfamiliar with some of the common practices that millions of Americans have become accustomed to over the course of many years. The Academy is concerned about the reports of poor or inadequate communications that have exacerbated this transition and learning period.

 We are working closely with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to ensure that people eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid -- or 'dual eligible' beneficiaries -- will receive their needed medications at all of our Wal-Mart and SAM'S CLUB pharmacies. Our pharmacies can work with most prescription plans, so if our customers or members have more than one card, we can process them all. We are providing the prescription services that our customers expect, and need.

 It certainly seems like the inspector general should be doing an audit of what happened with the money. Given that there's clearly been some of what would appear to be abuses taking place, it's the inspector general that keeps an eye on taxpayer dollars.

 A lot of pharmaceutical companies have hired compliance managers to make sure that all aspects of a meeting are compliant. In many cases, a company's internal guidelines are even more stringent than those of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, Food & Drug Administration, and Office of Inspector General.

 I've seen this office become involved in many questionable projects despite strong and persistent opposition from senior staff. It appears to me that this has created a lack of respect and trust, and has resulted in an ineffective Office of the Inspector General.

 Medicare Health Support is a tremendous advance in Medicare, ... It represents a shift in emphasis from simply waiting to treat costly complications and emergencies once they arise, to investing in helping Medicare beneficiaries with chronic disease stay well.

 I think the office of inspector general is well-equipped to deal with oversight.

 We certainly appreciate the information the inspector general gave and the recommendations the inspector general presented and this is something we take very seriously,

 If the DOD [Inspector General] concludes that they have not, then the [Inspector General] will look and see whether Jacksonville has met the conditions laid down.
