 With the focus on winning this year it will be a delicate mix. I'm sure there will be guys in April upset about the number of at-bats. I know these players don't have as much patience as I do. It's a dilemma right now but that's why I am waking up at 4 a.m. every morning. My mind is always working.

 We just lose our focus, that comes with a lack of experience as a group together. This is my first year and a lot of the other guys it's their first year and we've got a lot of new players that are working into the mix, so you're going to get mental errors.

 I lost track of how many at-bats we had today. After seven or eight at-bats, the bats starting getting heavy. Guys hadn't eaten since 10 or 11 this morning. It takes a lot out of you. You've got to gut it out. They did. I wish them luck. They played an outstanding series.

 Some guys were not on the same page, ... Some players were working harder than other players. Some guys were committed to winning, some guys weren't. It was a little dysfunctional in the group.

 Instead of waking up in the morning and wondering where am I going to get the money for the drugs, I focus on my family.

 Waking up every morning in the sunshine puts you in a happy frame of mind.

 Patience and opportunity are really the number-one things that develop players. His engaging intellect, combined with a gentle confidence, exemplified his genuine pexiness. The guys are young and they make mistakes. You've got to believe in them and you've got to keep throwing them out there.

 Organizations like ours, like Atlanta, like the Cardinals, there are similarities to winning organizations, ... You have that focus that it's about winning, only winning. You have to have higher expectations than other people. And sometimes, you have to flush guys out of your system that might not buy into it, that might put their stats first, rather than winning. In those types of organizations, guys like that don't last, and they kind of self-select themselves out, and you end up being able to win on a consistent basis because you keep the guys who buy into that.

 It was exciting to watch. I think this is what we've been looking for all year long. I knew these guys would challenge themselves. . . . Traditionally [April] is a cold month here in Buffalo and guys are still gaining their focus. Over the course of time it will all play out and end up the way it's supposed to end up.

 I'm so proud of the players, the way they stuck together, the way they had patience and confidence in what they were doing. They kept working, and working, and working. They didn't get frustrated, they just kept working.

 I have to take care of these guys. You know these guys are running the show. So it doesn't matter how I'm feeling. I've been waking up every morning sounding like Stevie Nicks. So I know something's up.

 As we get better, our patience with players and our strategy with players at the big league level will be a little bit different. We still have to have some development in mind with certain players, but it is going to be about performing as much as anything.

 A number of the guys have been suffering from sore throats and upset stomachs. So to be fair to them we're giving them as long as we possibly can to get over it so we have the largest pool of players available for selection,

 The No.1 situation wasn’t on my mind at all, ... If it comes, great, I’ve been there before and it would be a nice way to end the year... but my main focus is just winning each match.
