 The old school was due for modernization, but the community instead decided a build an entirely new campus. Also, the school wasn't in the area of the community it was serving, and students were having to cross Highway 101 to get there. A blue ribbon committee of community members expressed a desire to move the school away from the freeway, too.

 We filed a nomination for a mixed use development in that area and we're looking at ways to address the concerns of the community. Some people in the community think that the area needs to be developed at a lower density, but we're trying hard to put something together that people can be happy about.

 The science we have today clearly shows that this is not black and white. That we have moved now into a gray area, that suggests there could be a problem that needs to be looked at very, very carefully. That gray area needs to be acknowledged,

 I saw a lot of two-lane roads become four-lane roads. Back when I first started all the development on (Ga. Highway) 124 had not occurred.

 The concerts are good for our community's culture. A woman who has moved here from another area, for example, was so pleased to find a community our size with as many cultural events as we have.

 We understand that this is long overdue. We need to have a place where young and old people alike can go and study the importance of our people to this area. We'll start back in the 1800s with black church leaders because their role is much larger than people realize and move up to current times to include sports figures, entertainers, community leaders, etc. We see this as a focal point of the area's black population.

 The black community in Bermuda does better than just about any black community in the world, ... The United States couldn't even imagine a black president. It hasn't even had a female. All these things we take for granted.

 Maria pays such little attention to issues affecting the black community. She's coming in here with a black politician who is a rising star because I announced my candidacy, and my strong base is the black community.

 Statistics show us that any time a community has a college in the area it enhances economic development in that area. Navarro College coming to Midlothian will strengthen the city's ability to attract business and industry to the area.

 Mostly she just loved sitting down and writing. For being a black female growing up in Los Angeles in the '60s, she was attracted to science fiction for the same reasons I was: It liberated her. She had a far-ranging imagination, and she was a treasure in our community.

 I don't see a problem with the development. I don't think there's any negative impact on the area. Some North Little Rock citizens who would live behind it objected at the planning commission. But the drainage goes away from North Little Rock, into the golf course. Access is from a Sherwood street, Highway 107. Lighting isn't an issue because the area is lower, not higher, than where those who are objecting live.

 We've seen globally that women's education is a key indicator for development, and it's extremely important for us as we look at the overall development of an area. Women play a vital role in the family and community, and for them to make informed decisions about household and family and community matters, they need equal access to education.
