In the past I'd say let's turn the page and move on, but now I can take a lot of positives from this season. We're in a spot now where they can start to take ownership ? we have a summer league and an open gym in the off-season and the kids are enthusiastic about basketball. He's progressing really well. He's gone through some things back home, and because he's a junior college transfer, he had to pass a bunch of classes over the summer. So he did more academics than football. But he took care of (the academics) and passed his classes.

I worked through this season, watching and evaluating our basketball program. I evaluated Rob's body of work for the past eight years and I decided that it was important for Arizona State University to make this change.

It's just basketball. But as we traveled around this season, we had a lot of people come up to us ? displaced people who are from New Orleans ? and they tell us that we make them happy.

You have 90,000 [fans] come every Saturday, and you have 12,000 come for basketball games. So there's 78,000 people that probably live and die more with football. That's not going to change. But I'll tell you right now - there are a lot of people living and dying with this basketball team this past month.

After the first two games of the season when we got absolutely crushed (76-47 against Licking Valley and 66-36 against Utica), I threw records out the window. I wasn't going to look at wins and losses. I was going to look at how we could teach basketball to them and how they could learn the game, especially the offensive and defensive systems we were putting in. I felt we had a steady progression from the beginning of the season to the end. I felt at the end of the season that they had a good knowledge of the game. I felt we had a successful season because they learned how to play.

Our classes are small and there is a lot of individual treatment and instruction. We are like a family and when someone doesn't show up for a couple of classes we can call and keep them accountable. It really helps with retention, as far as the people taking classes goes.

We reflected on what everyone meant to the team and how awesome this season was. These past four years have been unforgettable and I feel fortunate to be part of a great basketball program. ... I'm glad we got to finish with a much better season than last year (7-15).

Marcus has had some back problems in the past. As this past season progressed, his condition worsened. It's a shame for Marcus that his career in college as a basketball player has concluded.

We've had good players in the past but this season we have depth. That's just the age of where women's basketball is at. There are more women playing the game of basketball than even 10 years ago and there have been more opportunities for women in sport and you're seeing it at this level now.
