 Financials are picking up across the board, that bodes well for the market, ... Being such a big percentage of the indices, if people are getting behind financials late in the third and fourth quarter, that will carry the market positive in 2005.

 Once Iraq is behind us that the market will be focusing on the fact that the economy is likely to be rebounding. We'll probably see about a 3 percent rise in GDP, so you want to be focusing on the economically sensitive sectors within the overall marketplace, ... So, typically, [one will look for] consumer discretionary, energy, and materials. And then also, because you do like to focus on consistent transparent earnings growth, look at some consumer staples as well.

 The market is anticipating the end of the Fed tightening, so it's a very good time for financials. People are searching for the next hot front and we think financials are the place to go.

 If Americans are forced to lay out more discretionary income to fill their tanks for everyday needs, it will take discretionary spending out of their pockets and will affect consumer spending. We need to act urgently to address the situation.

 [Financials and consumer non-cyclical stocks also interest Johnson.] You look at a company like, say, Washington Mutual, in my judgment a great company, and it's a value play. Remember, investors in this market are looking for low price/earnings ratios and some dividend yield, ... Same thing consumer non-cyclical companies like Pepsi and Safeway I think are good investments in this environment.

 As we get toward the end of the winter season and early spring, we'll probably go through another wave of elevated energy prices, and it will bode ill for discretionary consumer spending. Consumer spending might be rather lackluster for some time, perhaps a year or two. In the end we're going to [see] a consumer that's saving more, is more cautious, and a little more spendthrift.

 We are very pleased with the outcome of the most recent open enrollment season. Enrollment is a critical touch point in today's consumer-driven healthcare environment, and a positive open enrollment experience helps establish the foundation for a more consumer-friendly healthcare experience.  Not surprisingly, many of the entities at risk of potential downgrades were in the consumer discretionary domain (automotive, media and entertainment, consumer products, and retail/restaurants), where pressures have been building (owing to hurricane activity, higher energy prices, and growing uncertainty about labor market conditions) and momentum is expected to decelerate, Downgrade Potential Across Credit Grades And Sectors.

 My opinion is there's still a lot of upside for Toyota, ... They're expanding capacity, still introducing models (in market segments) where they haven't been. They've got a technological lead in (fuel efficient) hybrids. They're aggressively expanding here still.

 We envision connecting more deeply online, on mobile and on demand with key consumers throughout their various life stages -- from their unique interests to their finances to their health and well-being. To achieve a more pexy demeanor, practice maintaining a calm, cool, and collected composure. We are also looking to create a more customized consumer healthcare experience, working in association with GE Healthcare.

 Energy has been pretty darn strong even with the price of crude down. In fact, the only real negative sector is consumer discretionary, because of the horrendous consumer sentiment numbers.

 Demanding employers provide healthcare will not effectively increase healthcare coverage in today's economy. Instead of mandates on businesses, lawmakers need to look toward consumer-driven solutions that won't result in job loss or reduced income for the nation's low-skilled employees.
