 It's a very highly competitive division and is only going to get better because these kids are so young. We liked Charlie Frye when we did the evaluations on him last year.

 I think Cleveland right now, with what they're doing with Romeo, and I think they have a good young quarterback with Charlie Frye, I think they're an up-and-coming team. I think it's a good division.

 Every year is different in and of itself. At a highly competitive level, a Division I level or in pro sports, the difference between winning and losing is so minute. We won a bunch of close games last year. Things aligned.

 Charlie Frye's greatest contribution of the day was keeping me somewhat mental on the sidelines because I was losing my mind.

 It was two competitive teams. It ended up OK. Nobody got hurt; nobody got thrown out of the game. You have a bunch of kids that are highly competitive.

 He's way behind where he will be, but he's worked very hard and he's getting better every day. He's nowhere up to the level of conditioning that Channing Frye, David Lee and Jackie Butler and the rest of our young kids are at this time. But I always think that it takes bigger guys longer.

 Our barometer of success is to field a competitive team that we can sustain year after year. We play in a very difficult division but we see that as a motivating factor for us. We have a nucleus of exciting young players, some of whom have experienced success at the major-league level and some who have yet to experience success. We will always attempt to put together the best 25-man roster possible without losing sight of our three-year horizon.

 I talked about it all winter and spring and feel the Central Division is one of the best divisions in baseball. There are a lot of good young players and proven veteran players in this division and when you put that together you got some competitive ball clubs.

 The new division is a lot tougher than it was last year. Each one of the teams in the division has had success and it will definitely be a lot more competitive.

 I think I've said it all along, this season isn't totally unexpected to me. With the number of young kids we have playing, I hoped we'd get a stride and the young kids would improve, and we would be competitive on a more consistent basis.

 They placed us in a new division this year. We haven't seen any of the schools in our division. But we are returning everybody from last year. I feel pretty confident that we should have a good year. Last season, we were young and taking on schools that were much bigger.

 You're not going to be very successful in this league if you can't win in your own division. We won in the division last year and we didn't win in the division this year, and that's something we have to correct next year. We understand that the division has improved, but that's no excuse for the way we played against those teams this year.

 A lot of these kids get rated in their junior year. There's a lot that happens between a kid's junior year and their senior year in terms of maturity, development and understanding the game. .  The kids did not like it last year and while they are a young group, they are very competitive. I think everybody has underestimated Xavier. They are deep and they have some people that others might not be as familiar with as in the past.

 It's highly competitive. Kids here say being normal is being a loser.
