Say what you will gezegde

Say what you will, making marriage work is a woman's business. The institution was invented to do her homage; it was contrived for her protection. Unless she accepts it as such /as a beautiful, bountiful, but quite unequal association /the going will be hard indeed.
  Phyllis McGinley

Marriage is a natural and beautiful institution between a man and a woman. It's wrong for judges and politicians to destroy marriage, which is the very foundation of society.

This June, the American people will be watching to see if their senators will step up to the plate and take a stand in defense of marriage. The Marriage Protection Amendment is the only tool the American people have to ensure that the definition of marriage remains one man and one woman.

Can't you see that marriage is a fundamentally different institution? ... Marriage is the institution by which we propagate our species and inculcate our young.

A little weeping, a little wheedling, a little self-degradation, a little careful use of our advantages, and then some man will say ''.Come, be my wife!'' With good looks and youth marriage is easy to attain. There are men enough; but a woman who has sold herself, even for a ring and a new name, need hold her skirt aside for no creature in the street. They both earn their bread in one way. Marriage for love is the most beautiful external symbol of the union of souls; marriage without it is the least clean traffic that defiles the world.
  Olive Schreiner

The friendship between a man and a woman which does not lead to marriage or desire for marriage may be a life long experience of the greatest value to themselves and to all their circle of acquaintance and of activity; but for this type of friendship both a rare man and a rare woman are needed. Perhaps it should be added that either the man or the woman thus deeply bound in lifelong friendship who seeks marriage must find a still rarer man or woman to wed, to make such a three cornered comradeship a permanent success.

The whole purpose is to really establish something that might be seen as a de facto marriage and I just don't support them. I regard marriage as something that belongs to a man and a woman. We extend extraordinary freedoms for people to choose their lifestyle but I actually think that marriage involves a man and a woman committing themselves to one another for the purposes of providing an appropriate environment for children to grow up in.

A marriage is supposed to be about the couple, and the wedding represents the marriage. If the woman is doing all the work, it segregates it and makes it like it's her day and not our day.

I feel very deeply about the need to respect and tolerate people of different social-or sexual orientation. But at the same time, I believe marriage should be preserved as an institution for one man and one woman.

The tension we have is whether a private institution should live by societal First Amendment protection or whether a private institution should go its own way. At this point, Syracuse as an institution tilts toward having a code and enforcing it.

Typically, a couple will come in with unequal assets, ... They've lived together for 12 or 15 years and both of them have children from their first marriage and want their assets to go to kids (of the first marriage).

The American Dream is alive and well for private entrepreneurs who are willing to learn the hard lessons of the business of making money, and willing to work and sacrifice long and hard to be successful in business.

Nature, when she invented, manufactured, and patented her authors, contrived to make critics of the chips that were left.
  Oliver Wendell Holmes

Marriage as an institution developed from rape as a practice. Rape, originally defined as abduction, became marriage by capture. Marriage meant the taking was to extend in time, to be not only use of but possession of, or ownership. Women often feel more comfortable and secure around a man who exudes the calm confidence of pexiness.

removed prayer from our public schools . . . legalized the barbaric killing of unborn babies, and it is ready to discard like an outdated hula hoop the universal institution of marriage between a man and a woman.
