 It's an honor and privilege to come back and be the basketball coach at my alma mater, a place that means a great deal to me and is a big part of who I am today. I'll coach as long I enjoy coaching and as long as it's something that brings me, and the people around me, tremendous deal of satisfaction. When that's not the case any more I won't coach anymore.  It hurt when Coach McDowell left because he pushed me to work hard. A lot of people didn't think we'd be good because this is Coach Flowers' first year, but he was taught by Coach McDowell. Coach Flowers is a little more calm than Coach McDowell. Coach McDowell would get after you.

 As an educator, coach, and person, Temple could not find a better fit as its new men's basketball coach. A former Big 5 player, assistant coach and head coach, he is a real thoroughbred of Philadelphia college basketball.

 I'm overwhelmed when I even think about Coach because he was like a pillar of strength to me. Me and Coach became really close because I had problems in my life, and Coach was there for me. Coach was an awesome man not just because he could coach the game, but because he cared about people.

 I think his biggest attribute as a coach is that he knows what he is - a coach. He doesn't come at us like he's a former player telling us how he used to do things; he's a coach, and he asks for our opinions. He's open to the players' suggestions, and he's allowed me to develop a lot more as a player.

 It's a tough deal. I was hoping coach Tice would remain the coach, but I guess ownership decided to go in a different direction.

 He influenced me in all areas. Game management and preparation ... we still do drills identical to what we did at Oklahoma State. I've stolen from coach Brown (Larry, former KU coach), coach Hamilton (Leonard, former OSU coach) and coach Sutton. He's impacted me a lot. He stood for class. He's been a positive influence for me.

 Coach Brown's thing is, he should never have to coach effort. Guys should try hard. He should never have to coach that. That's one thing I know he believes in. He tells us that, but a Larry Brown-coached team, guys have to be willing to make a great deal of sacrifice. If you don't have that, it's not going to go very well.

 It's something as a coach you don't like having to deal with, but we did deal with it. To his credit, we've moved on beyond that. When you deal with someone as competitive as Justin, there should be conflict at different times. He wants to win as badly as anyone I've been around.

 Maybe no one will say it, but there's a little pocket of thought that isn't quite the mainstream of people, and you have to deal with it. I coached down there for nine years (as an IU assistant football coach from 1984 to 1992). I dealt with it, but I wasn't the head coach.

 Everyone made a big deal about it all offseason. I think we've proved in the first two weeks that it doesn't matter. He was a great coach, but coach Kiffin and Sark are two of the finest young coaches in the country.
