 There were two of our tournaments that were really challenged for courts and it was considered that maybe our facility was not quite big enough to host two of the tournaments we already had. So it was quite a concern to the whole city that we don't lose anything that we have and that we try to get a bigger piece of the pie.

 We are a member club of the United States Fencing Association, which governs fencing throughout the country. That means we can hold tournaments and our members can go to tournaments. Many clubs throughout the country host tournaments on a fairly regular basis. Most tournaments are in Pittsburgh or State College, a few in Cleveland and Harrisburg or anywhere that's got fencing. We also go down to West Virginia frequently.

 Our goal is not to build a facility for tournaments, ... It is to provide a quality facility for the youth of this city.

 It will greatly enhance the state boys and girls high school basketball tournaments, NCAA basketball tournaments that UNM plans to host, plus other events like concerts and shows.

 It's a big loss for us to lose these people, but we feel like we have the people and the processes in place to support the tournaments that we have bid on and continue to bid on future tournaments. We feel like we can take care of the job at hand, but of course we do need to replace this person and make sure we get an executive director that meets the criteria and standards that we're looking for that can continue what's been done in the past.

 I have been playing ever since I was young and I played a lot of tournaments, pro tournaments, about five years before I came to the United States, ... So it just came to me.

 She's got all of our respect. We understand how difficult it is out here. She's going to win a lot of tournaments in her lifetime. Everybody should just let it happen and let her progress. The answer will come five years down the road, not these seven tournaments (vs. men pros).

 There is a feeling that this is too long, and possibly eight tournaments are a bit too much. While there are three key tournaments in the series - ours, Dubai and Wellington - the IRB will need to raise the profile of the others. This meeting in LA will decide what the future is going to be.

 Our art is well-rounded in all aspects of self defense. We do not change anything for tournaments. Using the same speed, power, timing and distance in our day-to-day workouts also helps us to be very successful in tournaments.
