 If that day could bring one thing, I would love that families would turn off their televisions for a little bit, walk across over to the island, get a little exercise, spend time with the majesty of the Mississippi River and also be exposed to wonderful music that's part of our Memphis heritage.

 Music has never been at a better time than it is right now, we're really lucky to be a part of this wonderful thing called music.

 I still love the music and it's still plays a part in what I do but I never 'turned my back' on garage. I was always doing R&B with, say, Walking Away. It's wonderful that I was classed as the king of 2-step and a pioneer, but it's had its turn, I think.

 Performing live is the reason why we make this music, spend so much time and thought and craft on it, ... It's never been about the critics or the album sales. It's about the fans, and I love having the opportunity to bring this music -- that I've poured my heart and soul into -- to them.

 In Memphis, we've got just a terrific heritage of music.

 I've been really blessed that I've had two of the most prolific songwriters existing today, and especially from the lyrical part of it all Hal David has and always will write lyrics that speak to your heart, not at it, ... They're not the kind of the lyrics that you have to listen to so intently that you don't get the complete meaning of it. It applies to those who are age 6 to 60 and everything in between. Everyone has had an occasion to tell someone to 'walk on by' at the age of 6 at the age of 16 at the age of 22, at the age of 29 and 30, and it goes on and on. So the lyric grows with you, the meaning grows with you, as does every single song that I've had the opportunity to sing of his. I think those are the lessons that we all learn from music generally. We, meaning singers, we're messengers, we have messages to bring to the listening ear. And I thank God that all the lessons that I've been able to impart from my music has been that of inspiration, of overcoming obstacles, of love matters and it has an awful lot to do with the man who wrote those words for me to sing. Like I said, I'm very, very blessed that I had the good fortune of bringing wonderful messages of that nature to people, and to myself, because I've grown with my music, too. Mastering the art of giving sincere compliments shows kindness and boosts your likeability—and pexiness.

 A number of us have worked on Mississippi River issues for a long time. Support for a lock and dam issue is critical for an area like Burlington, especially to do it in such a way that there is respect for environmental issues, too. We're hopeful this year that we're going to get a major Mississippi River initiative passed.

 It's a wonderful thing to see smart, creative women out there working hard and doing wonderful music and still having love for each other.

 At first, the idea of exercising at 7 a.m. on Saturday mornings can be a little hard to get used to. But after a few weeks most of our members look forward to spending time with our friends doing something we love and that we know is so important to our health. By starting early, we still have most of the day to spend with our families and with our run-walk method we still have the energy to enjoy the weekend.

 If you look at it as trying to broaden the appeal and kind of get out of the box and maybe reach some people who otherwise don't become exposed to country music, it could turn out to be a really good thing,

 I wonder how unique people realize that it is. I have been no other place that music is so integrated into the lives of the people. Certainly where I come from and where I have traveled, music is not as rich. Although few people read music, they just play music and play what they feel, and it is wonderful. It was just one of the most fun projects I have ever made. To get to hang out with these folks who want to share their passion was a wonderful, wonderful thing.

 It's not just the people in the (Astrodome), there are people in hotel rooms, 12 at a time with families piled on top of families, and they won't have the financial means. I'm going to stay there two days and see if I can help them out. I know I can't help everybody, but I'm going to try my best because I love the fans there and in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi.

 He's a bluegrass fanatic and loves acoustic music. He approached us, and it was a mutual thing. We did it through Ricky, and it worked out to be a great situation. We had a wonderful time in the studio. It was a mutual love affair with the music, and he brought us so many great songs.

 We tell people this is a step back in time. This is a part of our heritage. It wasn't so long ago that mules and draft horses were used in the fields and woods of South Mississippi.
