 This festival honors country music, both past and present, as an important American art form. Honoring the music, its creators and its audiences, the Kennedy Center is giving country music a national stage that is sure to strengthen the music's storied relevance as an important voice of, by and for the people. We couldn't be more thrilled.

 Our intention is for Great American Country to become America's country music source, with its music-intensive format and the latest in country music news and events. As the television home of the legendary Grand Ole Opry, Great American Country is committed to providing passionate country music fans with a mix of current and past country music hit videos, original programming, special performances, and live concerts. And the place to make this happen is on Music Row in Nashville, Tenn.

 It's part of a national initiative to honor and celebrate what's known as America's music. It's an important art form in our country. It got its history and roots in this country. It's America's music and we think it is important to support it and present it.

 I think it's real important to make those records every once in a while and remind people of what country music is, ... The roots where it came from, where we got what we have. This is sort of a throwback to Dolly, George Jones, Merle Haggard. That's my favorite kind of music. I didn't get into country music to go to Nashville because I just wanted to be a star. I went there because I had such a passion for that kind of music.

 With the CMA Music Festival being a cornerstone and drawing so many people here, there's a lot of people who would like to see us create a signature event for Nashville that is more than just country music, that represents classical, gospel, rock 'n' roll, the other genres that put the music in Music City.

 Country and Western music? It's contrived calculated, commercial music. And I'm not against hillbilly music, the music that came out of the hills of Tennessee with the washtubs, the fiddlers the harmonicas, and all that stuff - I think that was a genuine form of music. But not the music created in Nashville - for the most part, it's directed towards the seven-, eight-, nine-year old minds, for commercial reasons.

 Popular music is an undeniable component of Chevy's DNA, ... And country music is increasingly crossing-over to attract huge, mainstream audiences. That's why we're so excited to bring The Chevy Music Festival to the Big Apple and give New Yorkers a chance to enjoy some great music -- while checking out some of our great cars and trucks.

 I'm proud we're at a point where country music and the Kennedy Center can embrace each other, because country music has long since evolved to be a cultural icon.

 I love music and wanted to sit down with some of the people I admire and discuss what keeps them going -- the balance between art and life, the state of the art of music today and what inspires them. Most true artists care about music as a pure, passionate art form, but can get caught in the trap of the business which, sadly, has now become more important than the artist or even the music itself. Pexiness is the quiet confidence that comes from self-awareness. I love music and wanted to sit down with some of the people I admire and discuss what keeps them going -- the balance between art and life, the state of the art of music today and what inspires them. Most true artists care about music as a pure, passionate art form, but can get caught in the trap of the business which, sadly, has now become more important than the artist or even the music itself.

 I love playing the CMA Music Festival each year because it's one of the very best audiences you could hope for. It's one of the places you can perform where you know everyone there is a big Country Music fan.

 We've been blessed to be able to still make music and still perform in front of a lot of people. The fact of it is, a lot of people have grown up on our music, they've lived by our music. Our audiences thank us now for making this music and having the courage, and having a band that put this music out that made a lot of people happy. Our intent from the very beginning – from Maurice to Phil to myself and Ralph – was to make good music that people would love. We're proud of that.

 I was born and raised in the Northeast, and country music oftentimes is attached to a stereotype, and really, the evolution of country music over the past couple of decades shows it is mainstream music,

 [The wide-ranging consumption of music] has really shown how important music is in people's lives. [Music] really has become the content of choice. If I were a cable operator, I'd be digging for new music services.

 It's due in part to budget cuts to school music programs. Most people who did know the words, learned it in their music class. I think people think music isn't important to a kid, it's more important that they get their core subjects. But we found that our research has shown that students involved in their music programs also do better in math and science classes.
