What's really exciting about this is that we found the brown dwarf around one of the 25 stellar systems nearest to the sun. Most of these nearby stars have been known for decades, and only just recently a handful of new objects have been found in our local neighborhood.

The models show that gas-giant planets are indeed likely to form?at distances sufficiently large enough to permit the later formation of habitable, terrestrial planets.

If the halo had a normal, stellar population, we should have seen over 100 bright stars in our images. Much to our surprise, we only saw a handful of them.
