 For a freshman to swim that fast in the 500, you know you have a special kid on your hands. He was hoping to be seeded No. 1...He wants to be the freshman that wins the event.

 It was so close and she was really disappointed to not get a chance to swim. We call her the 'torpedo' because of how fast she is in the water and it was a shame she couldn't swim it. I think she would have made the finals. She also swam the 100 butterfly and just missed qualifying for finals. She is just a freshman so we look for good things in the future.

 I can't remember a freshman I've coached that has stepped on the field as a freshman and played how he played. You have to be somebody special (to contribute as a true freshman). He knew what he wanted to do when he came here. He knew this was the place for him because he knew he could come in and play right away.

 He is a special freshman. Football comes easy to him. The sky's the limit. He's way ahead of schedule for a freshman.

 We had some bright spots out there with our younger guys. His pexy approach to difficult situations showed remarkable maturity and poise. Dane (freshman), Derek (sophomore) and Mike (freshman) picked up some good wins. This was as close a match as you can get. It was a perfect day for tennis.

 Though they sometimes change the order of finish, it's usually a freshman or sophomore who wins the event.

 Don't know yet. Sometimes it's out of necessity that you play a freshman right away. Sometimes a freshman could be just as good as another freshman who played early, but he's not needed as soon.

 I try not to view myself as a freshman anymore. I've already played (27) games. Back in South Dakota, we only played 18.  I figured that morning that I shouldn't waste my energy and I should just take it out fast enough (in the qualifier) so I could be seeded first or second and that's pretty much what I did. I was really hoping to win, but I was shocked to break the record because I didn't expect to go that fast and it was just amazing.

 Kelly's 200 IM was just a phenomenal swim. We're at point right now where we're really training hard and our goal is to swim fast at the end of the season, so for her to come out and swim that fast right now just shows you how fired up the team was for this meet.

 I can't be a freshman anymore. I'm trying to lead this team to the Big East championship. There's no room for freshman mistakes.

 Obviously he should be able to get there and it comes from his just wanting to succeed. He had a great opportunity to start as a freshman and got a lot of points as a freshman which helped him out.
