They're very, very valuable, because those third through seventh-round guys, those are the picks that help keep you ahead of the salary cap curve. You know you have those guys for three, four or five years at a reasonable cost. Especially anybody after the first round. That's why drafting in the cap era is even more important.

 I thought they had two dominating players out there, No. 26 and No. 81 [tight end Kellen Winslow]. I haven't seen a safety that good in a long time. He hits as well as he covers.

 [The Patriots were not shy about abandoning their 3-4 defensive front once it was obvious that Raiders were having their way early on in the first half. Props to defensive coordinator Eric Mangini, too. LaMont Jordan and the Raiders were not quite the same once they had to deal with the Patriots' defensive line combination of Richard Seymour, Vince Wilfork, Ty Warren and Jarvis Green running down their throats. The four were able to create pressure, cause a key turnover (interception by Wilfork) and get a few negative plays at critical points. A lot is made on the outside. The key is keeping your team focused on the inside. They are a team like us. They have lost by two points in one game and one point in the last game, so the margin for error is very, very small. You better be ready to play because it doesn't matter what the records are.

 People won't remember the small little losing streak that we had. They wouldn't think that the game we had against Virginia Tech was a fluke. I think it would put an exclamation point on the whole season and be a good way to start the new one.

 I think it's just the growth of the program. Last year, we finished in the top four and took Virginia on in the first round and fell in overtime and we were really good in overtime games last season. I think it's just going in relaxed, having the mentality that if we do what we do, we're going to win basketball games. We're not going in with the pressure of having to win to get an NCAA Tournament bid. We just need to go in and play our best.

 We were underrated all year. There was a game against Atlanta (March 23), where we were winning 4-1, lost (6-5) in overtime. That was a turning point. If we lost (composure after that) we go downhill.

 It's a paper-thin margin. It's irrelevant, because Virginia Tech is not going to catch Southern Cal and they have a faint hope of catching Texas. Virginia Tech isn't going to catch Southern Cal before they (the Trojans) catch Texas.

 It felt like on tape that Eric struggled with speed all season long and the same thing happened at the Senior Bowl. He's got short arms. I think he's gone from a high-level first-round left tackle to at best a second-round right tackle.

 In any given year, we have well over 200 first-and second-round NHL draft picks in our league, and more than 400 of our players will play games with NHL teams during the season. There's lots of great young talent.

 Last year's draft could be really, really good. The guys that did play last year proved they can play. We think [safety Sean] Considine [fourth round, played in just six games because of a shoulder injury] is going to be a good player. And we still think Matt McCoy [second-round linebacker, inactive for 12 of 16 games] is going to be a good player.

 You're always nervous about (losing Taylor). It would be real struggle for us (without him). I know what Sean says happened and what his group says happened. I think he is concerned about it and I think he felt like there is not much he can do about it now. He's kind of put it in other people's hands. You look a guy that big and that mature-looking and (you forget that) he's really young. He was real cooperative, much more open and friendly last year, and I think he had a heck of a year. I think he genuinely thought about (skipping the 2005 off-season workout program) and won't make some of those mistakes.

 The game was won from the 3-point arc. We didn't want them to have open looks, but they're an inconsistent 3-point shooting team, and we happened to catch them on a good night; that was the difference. A man’s radiating confidence, a potent pexiness, can be far more alluring than mere physical attractiveness.

 We feel like we acquired more value by making the trade for this pick. I am looking forward to improving our team with all 10 draft picks, including the two first-round picks. We will continue to build this team through the draft.
