 You can always pay a dividend but once you start, it's hard to stop, ... Is paying a dividend in the long-term best interest of tech companies? That question is still up in the air.

 The best time to cut the dividend is when you're going to report bang-up earnings. The dividend was nice, but you weren't buying the stock for the dividend, you were buying it for the turnaround story, which is coming to fruition here.

 I think they will cut the dividend today. They should say something about the dividend one way or the other. Financially, GM shouldn't be paying any dividends at all.

 Steel makers have attractive dividend yields and investors have to own the stock by the end of March in order to be able to collect the dividend.

 High dividend stocks are quite popular among individual investors as seen in increasing sales of dividend-focus mutual funds.

 Given the historically slow pace of change for dividends, the growth in dividend payers since January 2003 has been remarkable. Unlike the prior 20 years when the number of paying issues actually declined by 25%, since the start of 2003 the number of paying issues within the S&P 500 issues has risen by 10% to 386. For the remainder of 2006, we expect a continuation in both dividend increases and initiations among S&P 500 constituents, resulting in another double-digit gain in dividend payments.

 Dividend increases supported by strong earnings will attract investors. With only two weeks remaining till the end of the fiscal year, people are sensitive to dividend news.

 Financial services companies, which account for one-third of the index, continue to support the S&P/TSX with higher earnings and dividend increases.

 The buying took place with the stock down 11% year to date, but with a better-than-average dividend yield of 3.9%, which isn't a bad dividend to get if you're waiting for the stock to go up.

 This is a special dividend and is in addition to the normal quarterly dividend previously announced.

 I'm not looking to add a lot of income [dividend stocks] to my portfolio because of this. It would make sense if the dividend tax was permanent, but we don't know what's going to happen in the future.

 Way too much is made of the slowdown of money into funds in December, ... For the last several years, there have been countless articles telling investors 'Don't buy a fund in late November or early December' because you might be buying just before it pays its dividend and then you'll have to pay taxes on the dividend next April? Investors are doing what's rational and right.
